Hi Maximus,

Thanks for the info, I'm sure I'll tap your brain if you don't mind about the RS232 software. I work in ASP alot, I think I can grasp the concept.

Meantime, is this what you mean by a hardware solution for the dimmer?
http://www.electronickits.com/kit/co...igh/ck1003.htm

I am pretty sure I don't want a 9V battery swingin' in the breeze under my dash, so I guess I would need to reduce the volts down to 9V in somehow, but what about the volts out? Would this put out 5 or less and work with the dimmer pin on the controll board of the LCD? If not, do you have a suggestion for the hardware? BTW, it's a Cadillac, with automatic headlight's on when it gets dark...could I tap into that "solor sensor" which is mounted on the dash? That would be my second choice though, I'd rather have a separate sensor to do the dimming for the LCD.

Also, just a quick update to all. Looks like I can get the whole package into the US, just waiting for a final price, including the Remote and IR. Once I have that, I'll post, but in the meantime, PM me or post here to let me know if you are interested in getting this setup in the US.

Nope, that seems like a ordinary light sensetive switches, you know... "when it gets this and this dark, then switch on whatever I have connected".

I just had a brief look at the specs for the VGA board and it looks like it's actually 0-12V, where 12V will provide 70% dimming. Personally I found the dimming not to be enough, even with 100% dimming it's too bright for night usage. That's one of the reasons I'll go with software instead.

Now, what you can do is to use something like this one: http://www.elfa.se/pdf/73/732/07322126.pdf
If you can find anything that you could feed with 12V and that outputs 0-5V then even better.
Hook it up to your gameport / or get a analog input board.
Now you can write you own software to read the sensor voltage and control the brightnedd/contrast instead _and_ you'll also get manual override.
If that doesn't suit you, use a regular photo diode to construct your own "light sensor" that outputs 0-12V to the VGA controller.

/M

Hi Maximus,

Just had a thought occur to me about the night dimming for this monitor. I'll certainly consider the software option, because it just sounds cool, but until I turn the corner on the learning curve I think this might be an alternative...

When the headlights come on at night, all the buttons in the factory radio illuminate (white backlit).

http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf

From what I've seen on this wiring diagram (1990-newer GM), it looks like the grey wire in the factory harness (G) is responsible for that. So I threw the multimeter on it and that lead shows about 12v (11.85) only when the lights come on...here's my thought.

Since the LCD is going in the hole where the head unit is now, if I hook up the grey wire to the pin on the OSD board for dimming, do you think that will that dim the panel when the lights come on to 70%? It would be pretty cool if, when it gets dark, the lights come on automatically and the LCD dims at the same time. God bless Cadillac. Your thoughts?

TY

Yes it would, but like I said in the previous post, the dimming option is not enough.
At least that's my opinion.
0-100% dimming isn't the same as full brightness >> pitch black.
0-100% dimming equals about 10% decreased brightness, and if you tweak brightness/contrast for daytime/sunlight readability then it will be way to bright for night usage even with 100% dimming, let alone 70%.

The ISO loom includes a line for dimming. Not always connected, this is a 12v switched line. Normally, this comes on with the headlights, or vice versa.

Anyone have any updates on when these will be available to buy? I've got a system I'm dying to finish and am only waiting on the monitor.

Any update on this? If not, what is the email address to contact this company? Thanks.

Not sure if anyone is still bothering to play with these AU Optronics displays, but I got ahold of one and the VGA-only controller since I didn't need all the video inputs of the other.

JDBK070F2B1P (VGA controller kit, incl. cables, inverter and OSD panel)
JDBK070G1A0P (AV/VGA kit, same as above)

Well, turns out, the VGA-only controller (F2B series) is NOT the same as the AV/VGA controller (G1A series) and only lacking the AV inputs. It's completely different. It does NOT support 800x480. It does NOT support RS232 serial communications, and it also does NOT have a dimming input. If anyone buys this, you WANT the AV/VGA kit whether you'll use the extra inputs or not.

Also, shipping to the USA from Taiwan cost me US$90!!!

And then what?

Is the A070VW01 a dead item? No postings for long.

I find that LCD interesting since it is the only one I've found as low as 104mm , the absolute max for my installation. (replacing the 6,5' sharp LCD 240x400 in my BMW)

I also found the LVDS interesting to inverstingate since my MII1200 has LVDS and will be located in the boot! Less noise. I do not know how to enable it, but the electrical interface (and connectors) are there.

I too live in Sweden Maximus, do you think that encreases my chances on getting a sample? :-)

Why did it never come to the mp3store?

Pictures of final insatallation M?

What about that VGA board loosing functionality?

I am awaiting a new panel and setup from these guys, should have next week. I opted for the new 650 nit panel, a new driving board (GB), and USB controller, so basically 100% new setup.

The big difference was the driving board. It has 1 VGA, 1 S-Vid and 1 Composite in. Should be plenty for me. No remote either, but I think they incorporated input sensing to switch diplays when the input kicks in. Not sure...Still, I think the 650 nit panel is JUST what the doctor ordered! I'm psyched! The 400 nit wasn't bad, the 650 should be awesome.

Yes I can still get these kits for a very good price, around $300.00 shipped to your door. Shoot me a PM if anyone is interested (USA only).

Mike

Flexiboard

Thanks Mike! I'll let you know. At the moment I am investigating further.

I've emailed http://www.promate.com to find a distributor in Sweden or if I can sign up as a partner.

Technically I am a bit concerned about the flexiboard comming out on the edge of the display. I will have to bend it straight backwards. Is that doable?

Maybe you understand what I mean from this picture. (Wrhing LCD panel offcause)

Hello Mike (quantum)

Is the new panel you are writing about the C070VW01 or the C070VW02?

I found some specs at http://www.data-modul.com/de/products/tft_displays

There is a version 0 and a version 2 of the C070VW02.
