The plastic film is just a protectant during shipping. I ripped mine off after the second day.

Yeah, I removed the film on mine too now.

However, I cannot get the touch screen to work reliably whatever I try. It still fails to resume most times after a hibernate (seems to depend on how long I leave it after going into hibernate). If I resume almost immediately it always works. Leave it overnight - no go.

I even tried giving up on hibernate and doing a full reboot each time I start the car (pretty slow on a VIA M10000), and sometimes that even fails to bring the touchpanel back from the dead.

I have tried all of the drivers I can find for it (from Egalax etc), including the latest XP beta which (according to the release notes) fixes the resume from hibernate problem!

I guess the only thing left to try is to use one of the utilities which disable the panel before hibernate, and reenable it upon resume. Not very confident about that working though.

To top it all off, now the screen loses its green (i.e out of RGB) after a few minutes usage Really starting to get fed up with all this!

Well I finally finished my carpc install after having two failed motherboards and a bad hard drive. Now that I have my epia m10000 and new hd, everything has worked flawlessly. The 700H looks great and has been working since I plugged it in. I'm using TouchKit drivers and it recognized it right away, just had to calibrate once. The only problem I have now is interference when the screen is on black, it has lines and noise all in the screen. I'm sure it has something to do with the VGA extension, I'll have to figure that out soon.

Austin, I too have an M10000 and have lots of problems!

Any chance you could let me know...

1. What BIOS version you have on your M10000.
2. Which version of the Touchkit driver you are using.
3. If you use hibernate.

Thanks

Warren

Ya, I'll check tommorow, keep on top of me or i'll forget. i'm almost positive it was the latest version of the touchkit drivers, which i slipped streamed with nliteos. Its running XP SP2 without hibernate. I've been doing full shutdown and bootup and its worked amazing, it boots in probably 30 seconds into the dash which is fine with me. I want to do hibernate I just don't have a mouse or keyboard in the car to mess with settings. My brother just gave me an awsome mouse and keyboard though, he ordered it from woot.com and it is a gyration mouse meaning it doesn't need a mouse pad, just point and aim where you want it to go. Its great but pretty much useless when the touchscreen works fine. Remind me again if I dont respond tommorow and I'll get all the info you need. The touchscreen is running through a powered usb hub if that makes a difference. During the setup it had to be directly connected though, it couldn't go through the hub. Once drivers were installed I hooked it up through USB hub and it worked fine.

I Have A Few Questions/concerns

hey buurin and speedjunkie, i wanted to ask you guys a few Q's?. first, did you guys manage to take off the lettering on the front that says it's an TFT-LCD? any one of you have a picture of this in-car and closed? i would like to see what it looks like when its closed. how is the glare on it? when you guys drive around is it hard 2 read? i really like the ability to tilt it and make it face me when it's deployed. not many offer that. and it seems you guys like the screen so i wanted to know your opinions on it now that you have used it. thanks in advance .

Glare's pretty bad when the sun is beaming directly on face of the panel. So I just close the sun roof then.

Depending on how deep you place this. You may lose this function like me. Keep that in mind.

For 300 bucks, its pretty worthwhile. Just install the egelax (spelling?) drivers before connecting the USB cable.

Sorry, the page loads funny because of the watermarking script used on the pictures.

anyway, here's what it looks like after I put some plain matt black sticker (mac tac) over the writing.

Hey I just got this screen yesterday and installed it. Got it from digitalww. They have it on sale right now for 300 shipped. Any way I have to say so far I have driven at night after the install and it is very bright. The pop out function is great and the tilt and turn features are nice. One thing to note during the install is if you are using a din mount where you already have brackets that you are screwing onto the unit, watch out how big the screws are that go into the side. I used 4 regular computer case screws, After I insalled mine the screen would not pop out because the screws in the side were digging into the houseing of the screen, so I had to back them out a couple of turns. This morning the sun was shining bright on the ride into work and I must say I was much more impressed with this screen than with my older lilliput. I think the tilt and swivle really helped with being able to angle the screen away from the sunlight, I was actually able to see a touch panel in the daylight woo hoo.

Has anyone else had a problem with the DWW-700H's brightness and contrast settings not doing anything? I can change it from 100% down to 1% and there's no discernible difference in the brightness. Gets annoying at night - I'm usually forced to turn the monitor off b/c the glare is too much.

I'm also having the same touch panel problem as speedjunkie. Haven't gotten a chance to take it apart yet to see if it can be fixed per his method.

Touchscreen problems :

Check your grounds and also try to plug/unplug the usb touchscreen then reebot.
Also check if the touchscreen is getting enough power, sometimes extensions can cause strange behavior on usb touchscreens
