My new 7" motorized Touchscreen..

Ok, I plopped down $396 for my new 7" motorized Touchscreen. Here is an ebay link to the item I got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I used it for the first time yesterday (sorry no pics as yet). DarquePervert pointed out that this unit appears to be the same as the DWM 700 (think that is the right model number).

I hooked it up to my CarPC and to my battery. Worked pretty good. I first played around with the motorized mechanism - worked fine. I then booted the computer up with the VGA connected and I was impressed with the clarity of the screen. Although it is only 7" in size, everything was clear and easy to read. Colors were great too. I did not have to do anything at all to my video card as far as drivers are concerned (I am using an ATI 9600XT with 256MB of video RAM)

I did not load the touch screen drivers, and instead just plugged the touch screen in to a USB port. As expected, XP did not have any native drivers, so I put in the accompanying CD and let XP search for the driver and it found it quickly. It was installed and the computer rebooted. Touchscreen worked perfectly. And although an onscreen message stated that once the touchscreen driver was installed the regular mouse might not work, it did work. Both the touchscreen and the mouse worked at the same time! I used the computer for close to 50 minutes, and I never had a problem with the touchscreen - and I never even calibrated it. The package came with a stylus that works really good - much easier than trying to use my fat fingers!

The quality of the unit seems pretty good as it is not flimsy at all. While $396 is alot of money, so far I am happy with the purchase. It was sent 2 day express from Hong Kong, so it did not take long at all to receive. And while the distance could be an issue for warrranty service, so far everything is working perfectly and I have no problems.

I've only had the unit for about a week, but so far I would recommend it highly.

Can you program the hard buttons on this unit to pass commands to your puter? Can you do this on any units if not? I've been looking around the forums for a while, I want a flip out touch screen monitor(I would like a detachable face, I drive a wrangler) that I can control basic sound functions with hard buttons, I don't want to always look down at the screen to find the button to change the volume.

Sorry for the noobing, I've been looking through the forums for 3 hours today.

No, the buttons on these type of screen are there to control the screen (flip + contrast + brightness etc) only.

You could however mould something with a few simple buttons and connect it to either the joystsick (game) port or create some simple circuitry and use the parallel port. You would then need to pick this up in software.

Null_byte is correct...

there doesn't appear to be any native way to use the buttons on top of the screen for anything other than controlling the screen itself. The buttons on the front control other soft items for the screen - nothing else.

Sorry for no pics - have been very busy - will try and post some tomorrow.

THe pics are in the ebay link he linked to in the initial post. He also said he may post pics later.

All in all it sounds like a great unit, and for over $100 less than other companies are charging for plain motorized monitors and no extras that isn't bad.

I was talking about real pics, and pics from more angles, not those made to look good.

I was considering that unit but the pics on eBay are not that attractive. The pics on your site of the actual delivered product are very nice. DO you know why there is such a different in what is shown on eBay and what was delivered? Also how does the AC vents affect the display?

Check out the great Mod that Wired WRX and I have done with this screen.

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49758
It auto opens under power and there is a light modification to turn the lights out that stay on while the unit is closed. Those are so annoying

Maybe it's cheaper because the screen is not as bright as the liliputs?

Anyway, can the screen be set to open at different angles?
Can the image be flipped upside down?
I'd like to have the unit mounted upside down so that it comes out and flips down over my A/C controls rather than flip up and block the A/C vents.

I see the VGA plugs straight into the rear, does that cause a depth problem or do you have to use some kind of 90* VGA plug to allow the unit to slide all the way into the dash.
Does it stick out of the dash much?

When you boot up...is there an OSD that's constantly reading the resolution. It's one of the things I'm hating about my Xenarc. Like someone posted in another thread, it takes away from the OEM look.

I have mine hooked up to recieve TV signals. It doesnt work that great. I can usually get a few channels while Im sitting still. I dont get much of anything why driving. Mostly just static with the occasional flicker of a picture. Im also using a powered antenna that sticks to the glass and I have it on my rear window.

My review on the TV feature is its pretty much worthless unless you have a really good antenna.

No there is no OSD when booting that reads out the display resolution. The screen just waits for signal and then displays it.
