Hi m8, in theory yeah sure. I think this is what RRMobile was thinking of doing. One device would work as it is now and the second one would scan the rest to see if the signal strength was more or less on other channels if it was say +5 more then it would tell the 1st dongle to swap channels.. this however would cause a break in your listening, so you would need to swap the dongle being used to listen over so you wouldnt get this break. Still this would be easy in coding.. I am going to have a look at the rds text sometime to see if they supply a checksum or something just to see if I can improve on it, but I have no plans on coding up a dual tuner type thing at the moment, just got too many things going on at the moment for one more.

Thats not entirely true.
EON sends information about other frequencies as well. If there is a TA at another station in the same network, the tuner can switch to this frequency for the duration of the TA.
Futhermore, TA allows you to listen to MP3's and get interupted (MP3 paused) when TA is active.
I have been implementing this in my HQCT RR extension plugin at its working very well. Same thing for NEWS broadcasts. You can also set a predefined volume (as the standard headunits do as well) for the TA and NEWS.
Still waiting for my silabs to compare them with my HQCT.

Has anyone else noticed that with the Silabs Radio when you first run Radio, RR starts on station #2, but the RR screen is highlighting the first channel and the labels are all pulled from the first channel. As soon as I select any other channel, all works good. But when I exit radio and return, its playing channel #2 again, but highlighting the last station I was listening to. Again selecting any other channel returns everything to normal. Look like Radio.ini is being updated, just not used.
Edit: I just tried the stand-alone Silabs radio program and thats where the startup issue is originating. It seems the Silabs hardware remembers the last station used by the standalone program and thats where it starts everytime its started. I would assume the RR integration could be updated to issue a change station command everytime its initiated based on Radio.ini and that would fix the problem.

Cant wait till they bring out the AM/FM version of this (hopefully with improved reception).
Does anyone here think its worth talking to their tech department to suggest any necessary PCB changes to the USB unit for car usage? I think they would be quite happy to talk to us, and possibly implement minor changes to allow better in-car usage. They will certainly get a LOT of business out of this community if the result is a 'plug-n-play' product .
Possible improvements I believe could come from:
* Impedance matching (to suit/incorporate car antenna)
* Ability to connect aftermarket antenna connector
* Increasing the sensitivity from 1mV to 2mV (I think most car radios' sensitivity is >=2mV).

Not worth; this board is just an evaluation and not intended for 'end user' applications. Also the 'lot of business' is perhaps in the 100's, not quite big if you consider that these devices are targatted at mobile phone and PDA implementations...

I was just about to say roughly the same thing.
The thing with reference designs is that there made to show whats possible, nothing more.
With that said anyone selling to the end user (adstech for instance) might be interested in producing the am/fm model (or changes) if they think there's a market.

Very interesting... since I'm planing on buying one of these babies instead of the RadioShark...
one small question about the RR integration, will it pause whatever I'm doing and switch to the radio if there's a TA message "on air"... Since I drive a lot for my work that's one big thing I'm missing from my old radio...
[edit]
Just read though the posts again, a bit better this time
so since this also supports EON it should work with TA using only 1 reciever, I really hope so since I dont have the cash to buy 2 of these!
