jittery video?

hey..

I was wondering if anyone is having problems with video being a bit jittery or out of sync when played in RR.

When i use windows media player classic by itself, the video plays fine, but if i use rr for video it is jittery and out of sync.

I have the newest RR and im testing this on a athlon 2100 computer with 1gb of ram, so i dont think the speed of the computer is a problem.

Hope you know you are NOT using MPC (within RR) unless you uncheck "use built in player" in RR config.

damn.. i wasnt aware of that.. thanks for the heads up.

I tried using MPC as the video player and still got jittery video with roadrunner.

I have a feeling i dont have enough resources to run RR and video at the same time.

My current test rig is:

Althon 2100
1GB of ram
and a ati all in wonder 9800
FU skin from cdrskull (probably the flash that is killing me)

You are plenty fast and even maybe overkill.

There is an entire thread in the faq section of roadrunner with all sorts of optimization techniques for this sort of thing.

Also flash could be the problem. What flash version are you using?

..also search for "choppy video" and you'll get a lot of hits. Been there!

Uninstall all those crappy codec packs.

Install XVID codec
Install VLC media player

I've noticed that things like AC3 codec etc lag your system hard. Even the DVD codecs can turn a good underpowered system into crap.

I'm running a 533mhz laptop with roadrunner, the only problem i get with lag is when i got freedrive running at the same time, that thing seems to eat up my cpu hard. So for now it's tomtom (which is better anyway) and carpc for all the rest.

One day... one day i'll be able to get that mini-itx system....

i am using the latest flash that i updated using IE... i think it was version 9.something

Ill try removing the klite codec pack.. and only installing the codecs i need like winnox suggested.

I was having problems with the video player, too - skipping files, crashing, wouldn't play any mpg2 (DVD encoded), nor would it put out any ac3 or dolby digital. I've got alot of 5.1 channel mpgs and ac3 files I wanted to be able to play.

My fix was to:

1. check the 'Use External DVD Player' in RR config,
2. set the 'External DVD Program name' to 'mplayerc', and
3. unchecked the 'Use Built in Player'.

I'm using mplayerc version 6.4.8.2 with an Audigy 2zs (notebook) with the 6 channel out hooked to my house system for now while working out the software bugs. I downloaded the latest Xvid codec, and nearly all files are playing well. I've had a couple crashes while changing files, but I'd say less than 5% vs every other file before making the above changes. I've also got MPC setup to output digital (ac3, dts) to the soundcard.

Hope that helps someone!

media player classic, crash, file skip, dvd mpg, ac3, dolby, digital out, road runner, video, mpeg
