How do you have your music sorted?

I am trying to figure out the best way to sort music with all the new feature of RR that came out. To be able to utilize browse by Album cover with iList

This is what i've come up with.

Artist 1
--Picture of Artist
----Album 1
------Cover Art
----Album 2
------Cover Art
----Album 3
------Cover Art
Artist 2
--Picture of Artist
----Album 1
------Cover Art
----Album 2
------Cover Art
----Album 3
------Cover Art

Or does anyone think it's better to just have it like

Artist 1 Album 1
--Cover Art
Artist 1 Album 2
--Cover Art
Artist 2 Album 1
--Cover Art
Artist 2 Album 2
--Cover Art

i have mine done the second way. the reason is that i beleive the BBAA feature sorts by looking at the root directory for albums, so if you have subdivisions by artist and then album, the album art from the subdirectories wont show up. does that make sense? also if you want to make full use of the newest library features, make sure to get winamp 5.13, sort all your mp3 tags out using either id3tagit or godfather (what i use, at least), and then load them into the media library in winamp. if you use a skin that reads that library, you'll be able to search/browse by artist/genre/album without needing to scan your entire HD each time.

second way for me too. Only complete albums are placed into separate folders. individual songs are left in the main music folder.

to make it easier, i put all my random music into a folder called random. makes it easier to select all the non-album organized songs when browsing through the library.

I have my music sorted as in the first example. When I click on an artist in the browser, it then shows the albums for that artist.

I have also seen a couple of people mention they are sorting music in their folders by Genre.

When you get all of the main top 5 ways of sorting, you should consider putting a poll on this thread, saying to read the first post, and then vote for how their music is sorted.

i'm basically trying to figure out the best way for your skin John. I have done the Genre thing to. so i basically have it like this.

Rock
--Artist
----Picture of artist
------Album 1
--------Cover Art
------Album 2
--------Cover Art

Oldies
--Artist
----Picture of artist
------Album 1
--------Cover Art
------Album 2
--------Cover Art

So this way when I go into a Genre, and click on add album, it will just add everything within that Genre. So with it setup, like above, the browse by album cover will show just the picture of the artist correct?t i don't know if that's a bad thing, just more to look at. Then when the song actually plays, it will show the album cover of the CD currently playing.

I had it setup the way before when it would say

-Artist 1 Album 1
-Artist 2 Album 1

but i'm giving it another shot.

Mine is sorted via the first.

The second method seems to provide some benefit, such as album art for every album in the collection can be easily displayed in a directory list. But.. I think displaying album art in playlists would work equally well for either method.

i have my music sorted by the first letter of the artist name, and use only coverflow to select albums. i just like it that way, and it seems faster/safer to me to look at pic rather than trying to read the text while driving.

mine is like:

---A
----Artist1 - Album1
----Artist1 - Album2
----Artist2 - Album1

As for the genre sorting, I never really did it that way. And with BlueZX3 working on the new database, and it is coming along NICELY, that will be a thing of the past. You will be able to press a Genre button, and select the genre you want and just click play, or go into that genre, and select albums to play.

When I was alpha testing the new database thing, I have to say I was impressed. Doing a search for a song, the results seems like they were displayed before the OSK closed!

I have a few Genre folders and within those I have basically your second structure.
