Proper way to setup my CarPC using RR

I did a quick search, but could find anything. I'm setting up my first CarPC and have decided to use RR as my frontend. My question is what order do I install things and what things can I not install. I am using a nLite'd XP disc I created.

Things I want to do right now, probably more later:
1. Play MP3s
2. Play DVDs
3. Play video files (mpeg, wma, divx, etc)
4: GPS
5. Internet
6. Phone integration

Questions:
1. After install XP which do I install first, RR or my various programs?
2. Do I need 3rd party DVD player? Just WMP classic is enough?
3. What about mp3 player? I think I read I should use an older version of WinAmp, but I don't remember which.
4. Since I want to get on the internet and I normally use FireFox, should I be using WinXP with SP2? and install all the updates? I don't want my system to be vulnerable. Should I still install all my Norton AV?

Well that's all I can think of right now. I'm sure I'll have more questions later.

TIA!

1. RoadRunner
2. RoadRunner with external DVD slot
3. RoadRunner
4. GPS application with maps and external USB GPS receiver
5. external USB Wi-Fi adapter with long range antenna or an IDEN based cell phone
6. This is very limited to very few phones, mostly Seimens and other crappy GSM phones

1. Install XP, then RoadRunner, then your skin.
2. You only need a DVD player if you want to be able to insert a CD to play.
3. Any version of Winamp is fine.
4. I wouldn't install all that but it's up to you. It's not needed.

Maheriano, Thanks!

So, I install XP, then RR, then skin, then apps (IG, winamp, etc)? I will be using dvd drive to play dvds from, so I do need to install dvd software? I have PowerDVD is that ok?

Yes, that's the proper way to install everything. You can install the external applications at any time but the rest is correct. For the DVD software, not sure. I don't use one of these but I think you can use any application you want as long as you install the drivers for the hardware. And then in the RoadRunner configuration, tell the application where the .exe is located for the application you're using.

Actually I would install Winamp 5.13, not just any version of winamp. That one is most compatible with all the newest features. Once you get the software installed, go through a familiarize yourself with the options available in rrconfig. they greatly simplify the entire process, and if you dont go through these first, you'll run into a lot of headache later.

here is how i would do things:
1) install windows and and usb devices that you plan on using. check that all the usb devices work properly TOGETHER using whatever hub you plan on using
2) Install winamp 5.13 and build your media library inside (it will help if allyour mp3 files have proper tags, you can use godfather or id3tag-it for this), your gps software of choice, and your dvd software of choice. MPC i beleive handles most media files, but i installed the k-lite codec pack basic just to be safe. Ensure that all of the programs are working as you would like them
3) Now install RR and open up the rrconfig file. Set your paths for your video, audio, playlists, winamp, your external gps program, skins (although i would stick with the included one at first) and your visualizations if you decide to use those (rr can make them transparent if you use the AVS vis that comes with winamp). Also if you are using fm,xm, or any other features, visit the settings screen for each of those. If you are confused about what a particular setting does, leave it at default first and then run a search to find out its meaning.
4) Run RR using the included skin just to test out all the features and get a hang for how it works. Personally it took me a while to get accustomed to setting up playlists and using the media library.
5) Download whatever skins youd like to try, extract them into your skins folder (or some come with installers) and then ENJOY!

I re-installed everything on my PC recently because i had Vista on it and it drove me mad. I got a copy of TinyXP which is basically Windows XP SP2 with all the rubbish stripped out completely which makes it load much faster and run with less ram needed (always handy on a car PC).
I think everyone else covered the rest here , but keep asking if your stuck and i'll do my best to help with anything i know about ( not a lot at the moment)
