Given up on Streetdeck, but can I use its navi w/RR?
I have given up on streetdeck, or rather, it gave up on me. Today it decided rather than load up and start my music, it would rather ask for the installation cd. Whatever.
I already have RR up and running, but no GPS. Can I use whatever Streetdeck comes with, for RR?

Hello
Sure can... load the streetdeck dvd there's a folder called "MSMAP" with a data.msi file run that and it will load Map Point. You may recieve a message during the install "this version of media play not compatible" just click canel to continue with the intall.
After the install is complete you will need to copy the "MapPoint.exe" located in the MSMap\PFiles\MSMap folder from the streetdeck dvd to where you installed MapPoint. The default install location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint.
Actually if you already have streetdeck installed Map Point should already be installed and it may be a matter of just copying the "MapPoint.exe" from the DVD to C:\Program Files\Microsoft MapPoint.
Honestly I'd recommend you pick up a copy of iGuidance it's a much better GPS software Map Point.
P.S
Map Point loads pretty slow so have patience
Good luck

Kimota, hahah! I can't believe you just switched from StreetDeck yourself a month or so ago, and are already helping others to do the same

IG4 is great, I highly recommend it.
I run streets in the car also. But only for planning out a route, the one place where IG is lacking IMO.............
IG integrates into RR very nicely. Most of the big skin developers support it "right out of the box" so it's a simple set the correct path in config and you're good to go.
Good luck

Dude you should see the writeup I did in the streetdeck forum touting the benefits of switching to Road Runner. It would bring a tear to your eye
P.S
Since switching to Road Runner these have been best few months of CarPCing (ya thats a word) I've ever had!!!!

Ohhh I knew you'd find your way here danielk
I'm telling ya thats the way it started for me, Road Runner as my backup quarterback but quickly turned into a Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady Scenario.
Where Bledsoe (StreetDeck) got injured (happened a lot) and Brady (Road Runner of course) replaced the injured Bledsoe then took me to a Super Bowl championship, he even impregnated model/actress then dumped her for an even hotter model. Hows that for a frontend ^_^

You know......if I could get that damned virtual earth to work in RR (guess it google earth there), I would never look back. Got a moto bt phone setup that beats anything out there (now if there was a way to link that to the PC in order to mute the audio on a call, now THERE is the $1M software lol). Just gotta have the time to sit down and decide what I want it to do and make it all work together.
It's on my laptop and every once in awhile, I break into it and start messing around.
You know, now that I think about it.....blue soleil will link to a darned wiimote. I wonder if it would link to a moto (or parrot) bt. Then get one of the geniuses right here in this thread to write a muting program (ahem....ahem....john....ahem), then I donate large sums of cash to his swiss bank account.....you know, it might just work! lol
Any thoughts on blue soleil and moto/parrot handsfree JohnWPB? I think I read where you use parrot. Should react the same. Not looking for the PC to answer the phone, just mute. Maybe even a wire off the BT that kicks a relay and kills the amps maybe (Mr. Fusion Brain)? You know none of these PC solutions are going to work for a reasonable price.

You know.....I hate to hijack this thread, but the 2 main people I want to look at this are here.....
Why couldn't a parrot or moto bluetooth handsfree kit be modified to go into a computer? Mine uses an external speaker, that could easily be sent to a mic in/line in port on the computer, then all you would need is something that tells the computer to switch over. You would still use the moto/parrot control box and all, just the audio would be sent to the computer. That could be the answer to the bluetooth question. Even CF2 is having some serious issues getting BT going without echo (big issue on all pc solutions).
Why not let the people that have already tackled the problem give us the solution? I think it could be done.
Any thoughts? By increasing the path of the audio (through computer audio system) would the built in noise/echo of the BT start being a problem again?

I will always accept large sums of cash to my swiss account... no questions asked
Yes, I do have a parrot hands free in the car, and it works perfectly. I mentioned in another thread, just today, that I gave up on using the phone on the PC. Its neat, and nifty and all that, but just not practical nor rock solid.
As asked above, most of the parrots cut out the car speakers when on a call (It uses an inline relay to do this). It would not be hard to just take that audio and input it to the line in on the computer. Then wire the relay that would normally kill the car speakers to trigger something like the fusion brain, CDR's JoyPad plugin or whatever, to send a mute command to Road Runner.
The way I have my system in the car set up, and what I am using is as follows:
1) Purchased a parrot online, and had it installed by Best Buy. Yea yea yea.... I could have don't it, but I just did not feel like doing it all, and let someone else do it.
2) The way the parrot works, is it has a relay module that goes between the head unit and the car speakers / amp. When the phone rings, the relay switches the audio to the car speakers / amp to the phone (Thus muting Road Runner that I have running into the line in on my head unit)
3) When the ignore button is pressed with an incoming call, or I finish the call and hit hang-up the audio resumes from Road Runner.
4) I am using the parrot with my Moto Razr, which only has a single BT connection, and works perfectly with a mic mounted above the visor. If I press and hold the dial button, it will redial the last number. If I momentarily press the dial button on the parrot, a small tone is heard then I can voice dial someone in the phone book such as "Call Home".
5) If I am on a call with the parrot, and I am getting out of the car, I take out my phone, turn off the car, and the call is immediately transfered to the phone automatically. Same goes if I am talking on the phone, get in the car start it, the audio transfers to the hands free.
Its also worth noting that I have a pretty old parrot device that I purchased like 3 years ago. The newer ones have many more features such as LCD's to display the caller ID, photo of the person calling, Battery and signal levels ect.
This one is a nice entry level, and the controls and screen can be mounted in separate locations. This one is like the top of the line for only around $150. Froogle the model you are interested, and you will find it much cheaper than buying directly from Parrot's site.

Told you the right 2 guys were in here. lol
This is what I am using. http://direct.motorola.com/ENG/carki...L&language=ENG
It's a fantastic model but really pricy (about $300MSRP). I picked it up on e-bay for about $150. The best part is the contact list is saved in the unit and not the phone, so any phone that gets paired (up to 4 I think), the contact list works. Really great idea.
When i bought it, I did also buy the harness to plug into the stock bose head unit. Actually, it's still in a sealed box because right before I was to install it, I decided to rip everything out and put in a computer. So chances are I do have all the hardware to make this work. hmmmmmmm.......this could be golden!
Ok, done hijacking the thread. Might start a new thread on it and see if anyone else might want to get into the act. The good news on this project, as far as the bluetooth itself goes, you are gauranteed success since the devices are already proven to work perfectly in the car.
