GPS locking up?

Im not sure if this is a RR, or Xport, or GPS issue...

I have the compass (brushed metal skin) on my menu.skin. It seems to work on bootup, then all of a sudden it seems to just lock up. RR works fine, but my GPS signal seems to stop. Iguidance doesnt seem to find a GPS signal either. If I open Xport, I see the streaming GPS data, so I know the GPS is working.

Anyone else have this issue? Know of a fix?

I have the same issue but I didn't investigate enough about it.
What I can tell you is that:
  1. In Xport the streaming GPS data is always OK (at least it looks like but I didn't check if data are strictly following the protocol)
  2. My navigation software (NAVIPC) stops reading GPS Data even if RR is not running
  3. It happens even if I don't use XPort
  4. It never happened until a certain date
  5. It happens with two different GPS antenna out of three which usually worked fine since years
  6. It never happened with the third antenna (a bluetooth one while the other two are USB)
  7. All the GPS antennas are Sirf Star III devices
So I can say that:
  1. it is not a RR issue
  2. it is not a navigation software issue
  3. it should not be a GPS antenna issue
  4. it should not be an XPort issue
  5. it could be related to some updated library on the system (something related to virtual com ports ?)
I hope this can help in some way...

I know mine seems to work for a short period (most of the time) then hangs up, simetimes a few seconds, sometimes a few mins.

Xport does show its still streaming.
I havent tested it as a stand alone just yet.

how about get factory reset done using some tools out there on the net. i heard leaving the power off for a full day does the factory reset also.. I think display of steaming data means the unit is functional... Just do a factor reset...... I did it a few month back and that fixed mine.. mine is bu-353 usb..

ig4? you have the EXACT same issue i have if so. I have no idea why it does it but it looks up rr's processing of internal commands. However if u send rr command messages the commands process. I doubt there will be a fix during ig4's existence. Here's to hoping iG5 or garmin's product become carputer ready.

Ya, I thought about that. I am using Xport, was kinda PITA to try and turn it off to do a reset. I'll try that today and see.

Thx for the info

Hi. I used to have a similar problem with a game-pad (in config util it always works fine, but in games it will drop out after a while). And it turns out to be the powered USB hub can't provide enough power after a few months of use...
