RR Newb with a few problems

I have decided on Road Runner for my front end in my CarPC build. I have downloaded the program along with winamp 5.13, media player classic, and the Elite lite on my lap-top at home and am attempting to get most of it figured out and working before I put it on the computer going in the car but Im having a couple problems getting it working correctly.
Here are my issues:

1) When I open Road Runner, and play a track, it begins to play at a displayed 98% volume. If I click the vol+ or vol- the music volume instantly drops to around 2% (inaudible) and remains there even if I click the vol+ or vol- buttons again. The RR display shows the volume as either 95% or 100% depending on the button clicked. The only way I can adjust the volume after that is to use my lap-top's built in volume function button. Also, after I have adjusted the volume using my lap-top, if I click the vol+ or vol- button in RR again it does the same thing and the volume drops to inaudible again. Any suggestions on this?

2) When I first started Road Runner and clicked the Video button, i was able to select a video from my video folders path and it played fine. After that, every time I click the video button in RR, the program freezes until I close it using Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I have both of these problems using the Elite lite skin as well as the Carwings-V2 skin. This leads me to believe its not a skin problem.

As for the video, sounds like something got screwed up when RR closed or something. Delete the video.ini in the root Road Runner folder and give it a try, that should fix it.

If you're not using vista, make sure you map the volume to master in rrconfig or set mastervolmap=0 in rr.ini.

Not Vista. Just XP. I'll try your suggestions and report back.

I'm getting the same thing with the sound on my machine too - thought it was something in my skin design (still might be)
I'll have to check the RR.ini tonight myself.
I found though, that even with the volume listing it's 100% you can still increase the volume. Seems like the volume jumps from the wave (at whatever percent) and drops the master to 2% and moves them all up; since wave would already be up like 75%, when master reaches 25% the volume out =100%; but there's still 75% of the master volume to go, so you can still adjust. If that makes any sense than congrats to following my mind.

I experienced the volume problem, at least something like it, when I wiped Vista Home Basic from my laptop for XP Home SP2. Outside of RR, things seemed okay.

In the end, it was an audio driver issue.

I had a similar problem a while back when i installed elite on my xp machine. But my problem was when i increased the volume it would jump to 98% and when i decrease the volume it would go back down to 2%, this only happened when i was using elite. What i did was disable fadeinvolume in rr.ini and then installed mitchjs fadeinvolume plugin and the problem vanished. Not sure if this will help you or not or if that is even the source of the problem, but thought i would throw it out there as i dont have the problem anymore..

well just throwing it out there as an update for me anyways...
I tried it with the "vol-;wave" rather than just "vol-" and no issues
put it back to the master "vol-" , and as soon as it's adjusted the volume jumps around

changing the option in the rr.ini fixes it while using the master volume - thanks from me... hopefully it helps the OP too

Changing the mastervolmap = 0 fixed the issue with the volume. Deleting the Video.ini file temporarily fixed the video playback. I was able to start a video and change the volume correctly, but as soon as I go back to the main menu and click the video button again, it freezes RR. It may be having an issue trying to resume the video at the point where it left off (If RR is trying to do that at all).

Any suggestions?

Thanks Machinehead and JohnWPB for your help so far.

Thats exactly what it does, it tries to resume to the point of the last video you were watching. You will lose this feature, but its worth a try:

Open the video.ini, delete all the lines and save it. Then right click on it, and set the properties to Read Only. See if that cures it.

Ok so I tried messing with this stuff again to see if I could get it to work correctly. I disabled the onboard video player in RR, and clicked the video button and mpc started playing the video fine. I was able to exit the video and return the main screen play a few tracks of music then click the video button and the video start playing again in mpc. Only issue I'm experiencing with this is the video sometimes wont begin playing where it left off. Sometimes it will start exactly where I closed, other times it starts from the beginning again. Another thing, is there any way to get the annoying seek bar to not show up when mpc plays the video? I have to right click on the video and go to view to disable it. When i restart the video its 50/50 whether it will show it up or not. Anyways, also out of curiosity I changed the settings to use the onboard RR video player in RRconfig and it started playing the video and I exited back to mainscreen then clicked the video button again anticipating it to freeze, but for some reason it didn't. It began playing the video from exactly where it left off. Just like it is supposed to. So after that I pushed my luck again and exited back to the mainscreen and clicked the video button again, but this time as you could have guessed... frozen.

Do you have WMP9, at very least, installed?
