Arrow RR 03-06-05 - Radio Preview ...

PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING ANY POSTS ABOUT RADIO AND OSK:

You can make suggestions, questions and post bugs about radio as long as you have read the following:

-The Radio implementation is not complete -- try at your own risk
-The "LOCAL" function is not yet implemented
-The OSK implementation is not yet complete -- I will add repetitions etc
-For you to use Radiator you MUST DISABLE the option to "scroll the title" on the taskbar.
-If you intend to use the 'Scan Local' option with Radiator you should NOT have any radiator presets -- otherwise RADIATOR will stop at your stations even if they're not "tuned" and it will cause RR to always add such frequencies.
-The "SCAN" function of the radio is different than what I expected so this command (previously in RR) is now "SCANMODE" and the "SCAN" command is now what it is supposed to be for the Radio (to keep Mediacar skin's compatible).
-If you have a DLink Tuner I feel sorry for you (and me).. This is the Buggiest Thing I have ever seen. I can tell you from my tests, this card will crash at any given time during different functions for no specific reason. In order to prevent it from crashing, the file "devcon.exe" in RR's folder provides support to reset the drivers when starting the radio. This allows to use the Dlink even after Hibernation -- but it doesn't meain it wont ever crash. If it crashes, remember it's that GD USBRADIO.SYS doing it (it will even crash radiator). There's nothing wrong with RR doing it and I can never recommend the DLink card because of this.
-The Start of The DLink Radio is slower than MediaCar's because it does this hardware reset above mentioned. If you don't intend to use hibernation or reset the card: delete or rename the "devcon.exe" file and it will speed up the loading of the Dlink radio -- but you're on your own agains crashing the drivers.
-The Tuning mechanism of RR only allows for ODD tunning (Frequencies ending in .1, .3, .5, .7 and .9). The reason being that communication standards only allow for stations ending with those values. Please don't question this: I have seen many HARDWARE that only allows those frequencies for better tunning as well.
-Searching stations varies according to your location, antenna and weather conditions so please don't think there's a bug with it -- I've done all I could. Also the PAUSE existent when it "finds" a station is because RADIATOR does not support for telling anybody that it has found a station, so RR must guess when this is done (by detecting such pause).
-When Search or Seeking, If you press ANY BUTTON, it will stop the procedure. This is a feature and a prevention -- please don't say its a bug.

Last thing I have to say is:

I don't know if I'll implemente the "local" function as mediacar has it. I'm thinking that it might be better to make it save the current presets to a file, then I can add another function to load presets from such files.

Once you have read the above, I'll accept any comments/suggestions/bugs...
I'll not even try answering anything that I have just stated above, sorry..
Guino.

Wow, that bad huh? It's OK, I never planned to use it anyway, but I'll include it with my skin all the same.

Please do so... the one I have is the one within the DLink CD -- which is the same exact from the GemTek Drivers of Radiator.

Instructions from Radiator website

Quote:

D-Link USB radio DSB-R100 is reported by Phil to be working perfectly - it is necessary to:

1. download drivers for GemTek FMRadio 21 USB (23 kB) on http://flesko.cz/download/usbradio.zip
2. uninstall original software
3. connect radio to another USB port to force Windows to detect it again
4. then, when Windows recognize the new hardware on the different port, just install usbradio.sys driver
5. select GemTek FMRadio 21 USB in Radiator options

That's the one from radiator that crashes... the one from dlink has differet INF files only.. the .sys file is the same... I had to retype a lot of code because of this thing crashing on me.. of course more so often because I was testing it, but still.

I've had my Dlink blue screen and crash my desktop before now, not the end of the world really, was only a couple of quid, hope the MP3Car radio being designed ends up being worthwhile and stable.

Ok, I believe I have found this USBRADIO.SYS that does not crash.. it really does not seem to crash, even after hibernation... BUT here's the down side: It strips you out of ANY Seek/Search Function.

It is possible to make extra support to have BOTH the original and the new version of the file in the system -- and then use the OLD one for Searching Presets and then when done, restore the NEW one for normal (non-crash use).

But this will still prevent you from using the "seek" functions (you'd have to tune everything by using the presets or manually fine tuning and listening. Also the Stero Indicator does not work under the new driver.

well I think that if its a choice between blue screen or no blue screen, then dont worry about the seek function. I think most people will agree

I'd rather have stability and loose the seek, I know most of the stations locally I listen to so wouldn't miss the seek feature.
