auto volume control
Just wondering..
The faster you drive, the louder the noise becomes in your car, so you have to set the volume higher to hear the same.
I'm talking if you have set your volume to conversation level, and not at competion level or so.
Could it not be possible to make some kind of program that auto adjusts the volume to the driving speed? Maybe using GPS or so?
Searched for this in the forum but couldn't find anything? Has this been done before?
If not, would it be hard to make?

Many cars (GM) have that built in their stock players.. it is definitely possible to do that using the GPS speed, although, not sure how to calibrate it as it stands RR can only pull GPS speed info from MM (and I haven't seen any other front end doing it either), but could definitely be done..

Can RR grab nmea 1.83 data ?? or does mm do all of that intrensically ? if RR can grab the data it can just monitor the speed of the vehicle and calibrate the volume that way..

It COULD, but then again most GPS software (including MM) open (and LOCK) the serial port to where no other application has access to it, so unless somebody can make me a COM Port SPY (like Sysinternal's PortMon), there's hardly any other way of doing this short of getting your GPS app to deliver or allow polling this info from it into RR.

Why not use speed+mic for this? That way we can compensate for windows down and such? The adjustmen should be very drastic and there should be some way of ignoring "conversation", like detecting bakground noise, or hissing from windows?
EDIT: what about considering noise only after 5secs of CONTINUED sound level? this should compensate for voices vs. wind

Noise, could work, but then if you have a Mic. is probably because you use NaviVoice, and threfore the Microphone line is also Locked for access. Maybe Something to lower the volume by mic. levels could be added to navivoice (since it holds the volume level info -- maybe, that is, if the SpeechAPI allows for reading that)

That's what I thought off in the first place, but when you play you're music, I think the mic will be picking up the loudness of the music, and raise the volume and so on and on...
Think the best way is using gps data in a way or so...

I think the mic would be a bad idea ... that way your volume would always go up everytime you yelled at someone in traffic

As I said above in my suggestion, it would be filtering for CONSTANT noise........................................ read again mate!
The idea is that this "constant" noise will be able to ignore shouts/conversation/music... Although it might be possible to filter out the music, since the music is generated itself by computer. The idea is that sometimes your window is down, sometimes your window isnt down, sometimes you are accelerating, sometimes there is noise around you, sometimes there isnt... none of this is really 100% tied in to speed...

Guino, would virtual coms be the way to go in this instance?
