Will tomtom work on a "thinclient" CE computer? this way you can run tomtom and I could develop the other carpc software around it.

If you mean by installing Windows CE on Epia Mini-ITX (which IS supported, and there are drivers for everything, including the touchscreens) no, it wouldn't work due to the fact that it's an Intel processor and Tom Tom is compiled for Arm.
If you mean buying, say a ARM development board, (You can get Mini-ITX ARM boards, with Windows CE) then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

I had this problem - You have to open up the PPC_2003_SE\PPC_2003_SE_WWE cold start first and while open you can select the Device Emulator 'manager' to get the cradle option.
I'm having the same problem but starting up DEmanager with the PPC_2003_SE\PPC_2003_SE_WWE emulator running doesn't change anything... the manager just doesn't open. Any suggestions?
loscooby did you get it working?

Best place for support/questions on the emulator itself is the M$ forums for the Device Emulator. It solved any issues I had, as all the obvious ones everyone else seemed to have had too.
I personally don't see much future for it, and won't be using it myself as:
a) It's far too slow, even on my 2.8Ghz machine - Almost usable before routing, but after that... Rerouting is a nightmare.
b) Only seems to support 4:3 and 3:4 ratios - if you set the emulator to the optimum resolution to embed in your front-end the emulator starts, but tom tom is all messed up.
c) Tom Tom's CPU usage is massive - CE itself only seems to use 2-10% of the host PC cpu - Run tom tom, it sticks at 100%. I don't think it would be usable for GPS while playing MP3s, movies, radio, internet access OBD, you know normal Car PC tasks.
I don't see why a FAQ would be needed though - Tom Tom setup is easy, installation is easy enough and all questions are answered on the MS beta forums for the emulator itself, the documentation covers everything neccessary for making the Device Emulator do what is neccessary (If people who had the register.bat problem had read the instructions on the M$ beta website they wouldnt have had the problem) and anyway, it's an M$ beta, it might be finished in a few weeks, or the emulator may change it's setup.

would the older versions of TomTom use as much CPU as the new versions or less? I've still got TT2 and TT3 around here somewhere.

i've tried this today with tomtom v3 and it runs like a dream and should with most people aslong are your not running crud like EPIA boards that are only good for running 'tic tac toe' and strain with anything more than that, with my 1.5 via it only takes up 48%cpu so still able to run media car and all the other things i run on it

Last time I played with it...I remembered the emulator doesnt emulate com ports so there be no GPS support.
Its that still the case?
