Built in video player crashes using ffdshow
I just got ffdshow because my music videos were all out of sync with the music. anyway, it seems to crash the built in video player and when I uncheck it and use media player classic, the only mode I can watch videos in is -2.35:1 because all the others are split down the middle for some reason.
I think it has to do with resuming movies...I can get the built in player working but then when i go to the main menu and go back to video player it crashes.
also, when i hit pause and then play in built in video mode it restarts the movie.
oh one more Q, does shuffle work with videos too?
THANKS!

I probably have said this before: The Built-in player DOES NOT: LOAD, DECODE NOR DISPLAY the videos in RR -- WINDOWS does it. If something doesn't play or doesn't decode it is either a bad codec or WINDOWS messing it up. There's nothing I can do about it. I just re-did a machine here, ALL I EVER install is DivX and XviD codec, AC3 filter and that's it -- EVERYTHING plays fine. It sounds to me like your FILES are messed up to begin with -- there are nice tools to fix them (i.e. VirtuaDub).
Also, I am pretty sure I have tested FFDShow and it worked (without MPC).. When I tested it was because my machine was messed up and it made it so I could play *some* of the videos afterwards. I had to do a full re-install to fix it propperly and I know that the reason it messed up in first place was some F'in codec that did it when I tried to uninstall it -- lesson learned: NEVER try out codecs without a ghost image or at least knowing for sure uninstalling it won't hurt your machine.
PS: Shuffle doesn't YET work on videos but it's planned to be added at some point.

hey guino, i guess i don't really understand the built in player than, what does it use then to play videos if not media player classic?
Trust me it's not my files that are messed up I have the same ones on my home pc and my carpc. it's just that my m10k has issues for some reason decoding my videos quickly. FFDSHOW fixed the problem everywhere on my pc including media player classic, windows media player, even RR, but the only place that I get this problem of the video crashing is in RR when I play a video and then go to the main menu and back into the video. maybe it's a filter or something, but I KNOW it's FFDSHOW that's not working well with RR because all of my videos played in RR before without crashing - they were just out of sync.
Is there anything that you could think of that has to do with resuming videos in the built in player that could crash RR if used with FFDshow? the problem isn't playing or decoding video, it's RR crashing.

Media Player Classic is used when the built-in option in RRConfig is UNChecked. DVD playback always uses MPC unless you use an external DVD application.
I'd try two things:
1-Uninstall FFDShow and try again (see if it DOESN'T crash) -- if it doesn't then it's a bug in FFDShow's interface with the MCI interface (provided by Windows).
2-Try Installing a newer or older version of FFDShow OR another direct-play codec.
Typically, 1Ghz is NOT enough for playback of high-quality (1000kb/s+ rate) DivX/XviD files, but sometimes it helps alot to simply disable the post processing from the codecs in their settings screens.

so what video player is the built in one then? that's what i'm trying to use. i just uninstalled all codecs and reinstalled ffdshow. it should be the latest but i'll check.
I have no crashing problems outside of RR and vidoes play fine that's the weird thing.
RR won't crash with FFDSHOW uinstalled, but rr is the only thing that does crash with it installed.
my videos are not that high in quality.
could you reccomend another codec similar to try?
thanks a lot I'll try those things.

I was notified about new ffdshow build being available. I don't know who created it, but certainly he/she did a poor job. "

The latest on this site works great for me.
random question...what's the command for fast forward and rewind of video? i have girder so that if you hold the next video button on the remote it repeats the command "NEXT," but it doesn't seem to work.
THANKS!

You can use: "!RRNEXT" and "!RRPREV" or "SEEK;<SECS>" like "SEEK;60" and "SEEK;-60" for 1 minute seeking forward and backward...
