Playing DVDs

1st thank you for RR

I have problem with playing DVDs. I can’t play them in RR. Standalone MPC 6482 (and 3 and 4) plays DVDs fine. I am using zots skin (thanks). After pressing DVD, video player skin is shown and then overlaid with MPC logo with black background. If I manage to move cursor to the bottom of the screen then skin is shown again and after pressing play nothing happens (except PLAY is shown for split second). Pressing ctrl+D does not open DVD and space-bar does not start playing. Only zooming levels are shown in upper left corner.

Why is RR jumping cursor to upper left corner? Only once I managed to left-click, file, open DVD.

There must be something wrong in my ini files or with laptop video setup. I have read all discussions that search could find on DVD, playing or internal. Please help or point me to right direction.

Have you tried the brushed skins ? to start dvd playback with MPC, the DVD must be in the drive before going into the DVD screen..

Yes and yes. I also tried with BMV2 and BAV2. How is RR communicating with MPC? SendKeys or via port or ??? Could HotKeyLancher somehow interfere?
I just now tried with HKL terminated and RR started playing DVD. Good.

Problem now is I have to press Play Movie on DVD menu and either skin buttons or black overlay is above DVD menu. And these mouse-hiding games are very frustrating.

Now it doesn’t play again (regardless of which skin). It looks like if skin lcd doesn’t show “DVD” in upper left corner then dvd will not play. So confusing.

Guino I am sorry for this post and my poor English.

Thank you for your support.

It looks like it is actually position of DVD button on the menu skin that is causing this problem. Because if I quickly move the mouse, after pressing DVD button, all the way down to the bottom of the screen then I can see that my dvd (The Big Blue) starts playing. Could it be that mouse-pad is a culprit here?

This is typically such a no brainer that I'm lost trying to understand the problem... the way this works is: as long as the mouse is moving the Controls will stay on display... once the controls hide, RR moves the mouse out of the way.. then you can move the mouse again to display the "CONTROLS" panel that when clicked displays the controls again.. you should keep in mind this is made for a TOUCHSCREEN... so even if you have a button on the top left of the Menus on the DVD, you should still be able to click it (WITH A TOUCHSCREEN), and only after the click the panel will show over it. In any case the mouse should only be moved away when hiding both the "controls" message and control skin. I can understand this may get frustrating to use with a MOUSE, but that is not the intended use for it.

In regards to your question on controlling MPC: everything is done by simulating hotkeys and polling window information from API functions (I'd have used the WinLIRC or uICE information but I have no documentation on what it expects to receive -- and it would prevent users from using that interface directly)..

If you can't get used to the DVD interface on the skin, I'd suggest running an External DVD application (i.e. PowerDVD, WinDVD or FrodoDVD -- all three can work well, but it is a matter of taste)..

Im having the same problem but I have Power dvd installed and as the "external player" in RR, but still I get power dvd menu always showing on top of screen. It disapears if I press on my touchscreen but comes right back when the "auto hide" seconds selected in RR config has passed. Any ideas?
