losing desktop icons after install

I installed RR on my PC to test and get used to fucntionality at home. I checked the hide icons button and did what its supposed to. now i cant get the function to turn off. If i hit the show desktop button, i get icons, but as soon as i put focus on any other application, i lose the icons. How do i turn it back?

(Unchecking the option and saving in config file did not work)

the Icons should hide/show as you open/close or minimize/restore RR... unless of course, RR crashes and doesn't restore them.. in which case, re-running/closing RR would restore them...
