I've searched a bit, but I can't seem to find a source example of how to get RR and flash to talk.

Any takers? any oft he flash developers wanna give up a FLA?

The example is called Sample.fla -- available at the BMV2 skin. You send commands to RR using fscommand, and get information into your Flash script by variables RR sets for you.
