Hi guys, jus a bit of an update.

Well, I can see the CD Drive now. Can access also. But I can't get RR to play the CD content (normal audio CD).

Wonder what went wrong here...

Thanks in advance for your input guys!

if you get to add the tracks onto the playlist, then all you need is either a cable on the CD-OUT of the drive or you can try toggleing the "Play audio digitally" option in Device manager. Basically, make sure winamp is able to play the audio CDs OUTSIDE RR first, then it should work in RR as well.

Hi... Thanks for the headsup. Well, I tried it at home and yes, I couldn't play audio cds on Winamp.

I then disable the "Play Audio Digitally" and now it plays the CDs under Winamp. But another problem is that there's no sound?! Winamp is playing, coz the bar moves and so does the spectrum analyzer. But no sound?!

Any ideas is much appreciated.

Thanks!

CD Player Auidio issues

Try Checking your audio level's in windows mixer and make sure that "CD Player" is not muted, and that the slider is not set to 0.

Yup, done that. All enabled and none set to '0'.

I'm connecting the DVD drive via USB. Would that be the case here? I've tried DVDs and it play alright with sound.

Also, I can play audio CDs with WMP as well. Only Winamp is giving problems on the sound.

I'm using an nlited WinXP.

Red face

Winamp plays CD with NODIGITAL you must connect the CDROM audio-out to the soundcard CDaudio in.
WindowsMediaPlayer plays CD with DIGITAL! via USB port!!!

If you set the WMP to play cd to analog, will be as same as winamp

Who the hell uses the analogue cable with optical drives anymore! Those went out along with the "It is now safe to turn off your computer"!

Yes, and where do you find the audio out on a usb (firewire in my case) drive. I haven't tried audio CD's on my firewire dvd drive...guess I'll have to try it out.

If you get a slim drive (laptop drive) and then buy a JAE50 (the itty bitty rectangular port on the back of those drives) to IDE or USB or FireWire, you can get some that have 3 headers. 1 for power (floppy connector), 1 for a IDE/USB/Firewire header, and the third for analogue signals. You have to look for these because nobody uses them anymore. Some newer HP ones do because they have that "Media Play" thing where the main cpu doesn't power on to play optical media, so it is an analogue signal. More expensive though.

I don't think any enclosure (case with an adapter build in) will have analogue out.

CD audio works fine with my firewire drive in winamp and all other players...just a slim DVD/CDRW drive. The skin I use can see the audio CD without a problem (crystal blue).

So my problem is the 'audio out' from the drive not connected to the mobo, eh? In this case, how long can I extend the 'analog line out' from the drive to the mobo?

Thanks!

To be able to play audio CDs in the audio skin I read a really nice trick in the RR help file (search for it in the forums). You can have your CD player displayed in your music library as if it was a folder in your music folder. You can load the songs the same way.

my 2 cents...

Yea, it came from Post #11 in this thread, and works great.
