winamp doesnt have to be in rrs folder you should leave it in program files as thats how its default in the config. Load a playlist into winamp, close winamp, then run rr. can you play ?

what version of winamp are you using. Although the recommended version is 2.9 ive had success with newer versions up to 5.1, anything after 5.1 seems to bring a bunch of issues with just winamp itself and even more if used with RR.
Is it a clean winamp install, may be a plugin acting weird. Generaly though, if you can hear music in winamp, RR shouldnt have any problems.

thanks gents - i can play winamp as a standalone - when i stop winamp and launch rr itd when i get problems - im using lite version from downloads page,
the pause button keeps flashing when i click on music but nothing happens?

does this mean its reading the whole drive? any ideas as to why it should flash?

i think a new install of rr is on the cards soon, just in case?

i dont know about the lite version of winamp, i know some things are missing. Maybe try the fullversion.

the pause button flashing (which skin) is prob just an idicator that your music is paused or muted.

are you running the latest version of RR, not that it would matter, but always best to have latest fixes etc.

went for a full reinstall of everything - five hours of forwards on step, backwards two! finally sorted, your posts helped because i could see there was no real reason it shouldnt work, so it had to be a software issue (methinks!!)

again, thanks for your help

It will have been the lite version of Winamp, I'm sure I remember in the FAQs that the lite version doesn't work with RR.

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier, could have saved you quite some time.

So the big Q is= Why is the lite version on the RR downloads site?
It might be an idea to replace it if it don't work in RR.

Well i don't know what to think really,Guino's FAQ says don't use it but the site hosts it,and i'm forever reading "don't use a lite version" but people report that it works. To be safe i don't use it.

The winamp in rrdownloads is the FULL 2.95 version. The LITE version is a stripped out version of winamp which lacks many features, there are lite versions as early as 2.x and as late as 5.x .. Most of them work to some extent, but then we get people complaining that this or that feature in RR doesn't work -- because winamp isn't acting propperly.
