Since MapMonkey is on the list, and it uses Destinator, i figured FreeDrive and Garonav should count as "other". I use FreeDrive at the moment...

iGuidance 3.0 UMPC Pro's and Con's

I am using iGuidance 3.0 UMPC and really like it.

Pro's:
- Latest build of RR has native support to remove the titlebar/borders from iG, and no more "screen flashes" when pressing buttons.
- 2D & 3D view
- New 3.0 Version has large OSK and buttons
- Dirrect address & POI routing
- Automatically recalculates route when a turn is missed
- FULLY skinnable with Reshacker
- Snaps to streets VERY well, (S&T used to show me driving next to the road on the map at times)
- Fast loading (No bloatware here)
- Using AutoIt scripts, can jump to any internal menu dirrectly with the touch of a single button
- "North always up" & Rotate maps as vehicle turns
- Voice prompted turns
- Displays ETA, Distance to next turn, Total distance remaining and current speed at the bottom of the iG screen
- Map colors, road colors, font sizes ect can be changed in the Theme.ini file, and also has day/nigh auto skin switching

Cons:
- OSK is not a Qwerty keyboard, and is a PAIN to type on
- "Canned" voice guidance (EA can not pronounce streets)
- No internal voice recognition (but can be done with 3rd party RR voice programs)

Here is a screen capture of iGuidance skinned with Reshacker to match my current skin. This is one of my favorite features, as it really makes the GPS look and feel like it is completely part of the skin/RR interface.

Nck

No substitute for NCK. As far as driving instructions and map quality are concerned it can't simply be beaten by any other navi SW. The osk to fill in fields is RR's, big buttons and solid feedback. The only problem is that I can't figure out how it could take control of music IOT lower its volume when giving instructions.

cheers.

Checkout my post here:

I've developed a small app which should let you lower music volume on Guidance with NCK.

-= edit =-

And also another vote for NCK

Hmmm, no FreeDrive?

That's what I'd vote for if it was there

GPS software review

Guys, Try to elaborate a little more instead of just saying "I use xxx".

This could be a very informative thread for choosing GPS software.

Explain the pro's and con's and possibly attach a screen shot showing how the maps/colors/fonts ect look.

I am not familiar with NCK. When I did some searching, all I can find is PDA & OEM versions of the software. Are you guys using a PDA emulator or something to use this on a PC, or is there a PC version... if so I can't seem to find it.

I do see they have a US subsiderary, so I am hoping they have a version with USA maps ect.

Noticed it l8r.. But then it doesn't make so much sence, since freedrive is one of the most gps software used for a CarPC... well at least here in Europe.

Good point. But, I have no idea how to add new option to the poll.

freedrive!

Freedrive is the coolest by far, especialy when used alongside CdRsKuLLs MC2.0 skin, I especially like the features like, the classy looking speedometer (with inegrated compass!) that appears on the main menu page if the navigation is running, I also Like the direction arrows that show you exactly where to go, even in the audio screen, its very well intigrated, into rr and MC2.0, top work man!

I have not got maps for iguidance for the uk, so i guess i dont know what im missing out on, but freedrive- using the destinator engine is fine for me!

:-)

I hate to say the obvious.. but TomTom is light years ahead of anything running on PC's (and don't talk to me about the emulator pls.. ). Whenever a day a TT will be available NATIVE for windows.. well you know where will go my vote!
I'm missing my pda (onnly for navigation) so muuuuuuuuuch!
