The new font will be 2 larger and bold. Think that will work? Let me know... peace... W3bMa5t3r

Created a second version of the Updater for those who wish to embed the Updater in their skins. The text in the program is ALOT larger and is NOT suited for normal usage. Check the first post.

What about the skins???
Maybe this is getting too far off base, but what about including a few more skins? Liquid Smokes and Chucks and a few others that are actively being updated could be integrated selectively with the install. Save a lot of searching thru forums if the installer took care of the ini settings and file locations at least for an initial install.
As a newbie I would have been flat floored with Road Runner if the default install installed several working and awesome skins... My experience was error/search new error/search until I got it working...

Maybe not really include the skins in the installer (it would make it incredibly big), but give an option to download some skins automatically and install them (perhaps with a little preview for each). New users do tend to get a bit lost installing skins. But I would probably think less of the software if I had to download an installshield of 70Mb+.
Another way out would be to Have various installs for each skin, and just have those available for the user to download with the desired skin.
#chippy: did you try the GE thing yet ?

Considering the current install is approaching 23Mbs already.. this makes much more sense and I think I can handle it I'll build a seperate installer, giving you a preview of the skins, letting you choose which to install, download those skins and then install them... and either performing the basic config, or telling you exactly what to do.
Any suggestions on which skins to option? Let's aim for no more than 10 skins... So people... which (up to) 10 skins should we install for the newbies?? Give me 10 skins in a list

Ok people, I've created the RR_Skin_Installer, I just need to know which skins I should give the option for installing. I'm looking for about 10 skins. If there is interest in this, let me know... else I'll just nix the project... lol j/k...

This is a cool idea. I'd just go with some of the popular skins to start with. Chuck's, Liquid Smoke's (LSX Void), and some other popular ones. Just looking over the popular ones at Mobile-Effects.com, I'd suggest the Alpine skins, the iDrive skin, Brushed Metal and Brushed Aluminum, Bongo.
I kind of like Guino's idea of having separate installers for each skin. Some of the skins get so involved with incorporated extra software, that having it's own dedicated installer might be the best way to go, to keep down the file sizes, and still include everything a noobie user would want to implement. Heavily modded config files, menus etc almost make a separate installer necessary. Otherwise you'd have a custom menu from an old skin showing up in a newly installed skin. (You know what I mean)
The basic skins that don't really have extra apps could be worked into a generic skin installer.
I really like this concept and think it would really set off Road Runner. I'd like to see something in the skin installer that would let the user download and install their car-specific flash logo/clock as well. New users have problems trying to figure out how to implement this. Possibly have the installer detect if the user has the necessary files needed to run the skin correctly (flash). If not, offer to update them.
Webmaster, I saw you submitted your new apps as downloads at mobile-effects.com I'm waiting to add them to the new site rebuild that should be done soon - just didn't want you to think I was ignoring your submission

I'm currently working on the Skin Installer, which will offer about 5-7 skins. The more basic ones are just installed into the skin folder, under the correct skin name. The more complicated ones like Chucks or LSX are installed correctly and those that required file editing, the info is displayed that the user needs to change. Skins won't be dropped into other skin files, so that isn't a worry. It is taking a bit, because of the sheer size and amount of files I'm dealing with, but in the end this should be a nice feature.
For the flash clocks, etc. that could be worked out, but that might end up being a seperate installer. which downloads and installs the flash clock and then either displays the code that needs to be added or 'possibly' adding the code to the menu.skin file itself (not too keen on that idea).
As far as the files submitted to Mobile-Effects, let me know when I should resubmit them, as they've been updated.
The Updater has been updated New version 1.0.0.14 Thanks to Blue ZX3 for some coding help The updater in the install package has been updated as well.

Woa! I am almost finished putting together my carputer, and was planning to start installing RR tonight, expecting it to take a couple of weeks to figure it all out. I came accross your intaller W3bMa5t3r & it is just what I was looking for! I am the type of guy who this thing will be most usefull for. I may be able to set it up on my bench now & then install the carputer in my car next weekend! Perfect! I was planning to intall the Blue Devil Skin, if you are still looking for skin suggestions. Thanks!

Ok, Made another update to the Updater. Version 1.0.0.17 Now. Ensure you have the latest version, as Road Runner will soon be changing the executible's file name to ROADRUNNER.EXE. This new updater accounts for that. When it performs the update, if the new update has the new file name, ROADRUNNER.EXE, it will delete the old RR.EXE file. The Installer has been updated with the new version. The embedded one has been updated, version 1.0.0.18 (same functionality as the reg udpater version 1.0.0.17). Version 006 of the RR Help File is now also included.
