Yup Ford has contracts with Microsoft to install a specially built tablet running Microsoft windows as OEM equipment. They are really rugged looking units. Say it in the 'My Ford' Publication my dealer sends me. The option will be available on the new super duty series trucks according to the magazine.

uh... i think xp -> vista is a much bigger leap than 2000 -> xp, considering 2000 and XP are at least based on the same NT kernel, and other than gui changes, have pretty much the same functionality. Also, 2000 and XP shared the same filesystem (NTFS), and Vista has a this new Transaction File System.

Here's a suggestion, stick with what works... XP.... and when you have it all setup how you want and it works pretty good, leave it. Stop upgrading OS's once one works leave it. Why upgrade your OS for in your car, vista wont offer any more really necessary features than XP that will be suitable in your car or even needed. XP is the best OS microsoft has come out with in a while and you should stick with what works. Call me old fashioned, but some times an upgrade is your worst enemy.

Features? He did indicate a level of useful set up. Sure DOS players are available but DOS is not for everyone. Seems like that is the general statement about many OSes

pressing vol-, mute, vol+, does nothing. Heres my button code:
B22,2,488,113,55,"VOL-","Volume-"
B23,115,490,114,51,"MUTE","Mute"
B24,230,491,112,51,"VOL+","Volume+"
Also playing videos it keeps flashing the video player on/off over the video.
I did just installed RR on vista not even a hour ago, so it looks like I got some tweaking to do. Any suggestions?

im thinking of installing Vista in my ride as well, just for ****s and giggles... One thing that did look interesting to me is the new WMC, i was thinking about using this as my front end and im sure there has to be a way to customize it to suite my needs... Has anyone tried to do anything with Windows Media Center in Vista yet?

thought vista doesnt support GDI at all, so the new version wont work well
In any case, everyones complaining about vista requirments. Vista can be stripped down to run on slow/old hardware. The high end requirements are for Aero. Remember, there are/will be vista based embedded solutions that arent running the latest and greatest hardware out there. I'm looking foward to the WindowsCE replacement based off vista thats in testing.

i been using vista ultimate on my desktop, i can see mayor bugs not to mention drivers support, most likely audio drivers, is true that they are availabe but not like for xp, Road Runner dosnt run under vista, cut be the aero GUI, i dont care, but i must say MC is nice as hell.my carpc is running nicely and strong with xp and Road RUnner and like JWPB said Road Runner is covering my whole screen soo no reason to see windos that much, soo i'll wait..

I've been playing with vista recently... I like it.... so far it just seems like a refined version of xp...
WARNING: from my experiences so far, DO NOT try & do an upgrade, especially if you have a lot of crap on your pc... vista can have issues with programs that the advisor will not warn you about, & you won't find out about the problems until after you upgrade, then wind up with a crapped out system,
I had one machine that after the upgrade it just crapped out, blue screens & all... I'm realizing that the issue there seemed to be a program that I had on the machine called style xp... vista couldn't live with it, but gave no indication until after the fact.... it's always a good idea to do a freash install anyway, but especially with vista as there are a lot of unknown compatability issues there still...
after playing with vista for a bit, I'm pretty sure that I will upgrade all my machines to it.... it runs fine on my system & I see no real difference in performance between it & xp.... in some ways it's faster even, especially the built in search & the way it indexes...
I haven't even run aero yet & I still say go for it, maybe not in the car though until fe support is more wide spread...
