RideRunner / Winamp issues

Everytime I try to play mp3's RideRunner will freeze up after about 20 seconds of play then reset. Once reset I have to shut down and restart to play songs. This only happens with music that plays through Winamp. If I listen to HD Radio or Sirius I have no issues. This all started when I un-installed Winamp and reinstalled it to a non-default location. I noticed in RRConfig that the Winamp location is one of three options: Auto, Manual and the third one (forget what it is because it doesn't pertain to my setup). I tried manual and browsed to the location of Winamp 5.13. I close config and start RR. No music, no playlist. I close RR, open winamp locally and the playlist is there. So I close Winamp, open rrconfig and change it to Winamp (Automatic). I save, start RR and voila, I have music playing. But 20 seconds later it freezes up almost like it's trying to load another RideRunner session. Then it closes and the playlist is gone. Here's my setup:

I have a 30Gb Solid State hard drive partitioned to a 5Gb non-writeable (EWF) and a 25Gb writeable. The 5Gb has XP with minlogon and EWF. The 25Gb has media and 3 programs installed to it. I have Winamp, RideRunner and iGuidance 4 installed to the writeable drive so I can save where my music stopped when I shut down and also save destinations and POIs in iGuidance. I originally had winamp installed in the default location but I couldn't save where my music left off on shut down. It would always revert back to whatever playlist I had when I disabled EWF and saved my system. After un-installing winamp and re-installing on the writeable I un-installed RR and Void (the skin I use) and re-installed them. I made sure RRConfig pointed to the right directories. All was working for a few days then the freezing started up. That's when I noticed the different choices for Winamp locations in RRConfig. I tried different sking to include the one that comes with RR and I get the same result with all of them.

Software:
- Winamp 5.13
- RideRunner 3/1/09

Any suggestions?

This could be an EWF issue though it isn't my first suspect. I would remove/disable any/all plugins in winamp that you don't use, and switch the output plugin between DirectSound/WaveOut to see if it helps.

I've had EWF since the pc was built. It just started acting up when I moved where Winamp was installed to (which was about the same time I updated to the newest RideRunner). I'll give it a try and report back. Since Winamp is not located in the default directory, should I use Winamp (manual) in RRConfig?

Sal R. is an unknown quantity at this point
Maybe it has something to do w/ this?

IMPORTANT: a small bug has been found in RRCONFIG, the winamp path if not set to auto it will be corrupted

edit rr.ini manually or just use AUTO

winamppath=

when set with NO path, its in AUTO mode, and RR will find winamp based on the winamp developer's recomendation to find winamp on a system

Another issue that could lead to your pb is that your non-protected partition is possibly getting corrupted because of a conflict between what been cached in the hibfile versus what's written to disk. A restart will reassociate all the file handles and make those files accessible again.

I did what Guino suggested but it still froze up. So I played winamp locally with the task manager up to watch the processes. The cpu would spike after about 15 seconds of music then winamp would shut down (that's why RideRunner was freezing while playing mp3's). It turns out it was winamp agent. I guess when I moved the install to D:\Program Files I forgot to uncheck the option to install winamp agent. I reinstalled winamp without it and all is working fine now. Thanks for the quick replies!

Changing the output plugin to direct sound vs wavesound decreased my cpu usage by 10% though so that helps...thanks Guino!!
