Audio crash after hibernate (USB alerts)

It seems the way road runner goes into hibernate somehow effects USB devices. I haven't seen anyone else complain about this and I'm quite supprised.

NOTE: this ONLY happens if you have USB devices plugged in, and select hibernate option from road runner.

Symptoms: If i'm playing music and tell road runner to hibernate the system goes into hibernate. Upon returning from hibernate music starts playing, then shortly it is inturrupted by the windows alert telling me that my USB devices disconnected. The music starts playing again. Once again the music is inturrupted by USB alerts (this time the devices are reconnecting). At this point winamp does that crash thing...as if it froze.......if you skip to the next song it continues playing fine.

Test 1: Started playing music with winamp, then select start, shutdown, hibernate.
Result 1: USB never alerted of connecting or disconnting, music continued to play fine.
Test 2: Started road runner, played music through road runner, but rather then using road runner to go into hibernate, i hit my power button (which i set up to put the computer into hibernate via the control panel power options.)
Result 2: USB never alerted of connecting or disconnting, music continued to play fine.

Can some other people with USB devices test this and see if its just me? I have been testing RoadRunner for a few days now, and only noticed it today when I hooked up my hub, mini-ps2-keyboard and bluetooth dongle.

guino: how does RR initiate hibernate? does it do anything that might effect USB devices?

All RR does is ask the SYSTEM to Hibernate -- nothing is done to usb in general. If you hibernate from windows you might run into trouble simply because you might be USING your usb devices when going into Hibernate.. RR's Hibernate function stops using all devices (usb or not) before hibernating then starts using them again after hibernation... on windows hibernate I can't possibly do anything (windows doesn't allow time for me to do anything)..

What OS are you using 98, 2000 or XP ?

XP Pro, and like i said if i choose start shutdown hibernate there is no problem......i can live with it if its really something you just cant figure out, i should just rely on the opus to power down anyway.

So you're actually saying that only when using RR's hibernate function that you have problems with the USB alerts ?? if so, I can try a less-powerful hibernate function. I just used the one I know always works.. If I use a less-powerful function, then it's possible that using a Device/COM port etc, in another application (not in RR) could prevent the system from performing the hibernate request.

hmm, i'm curious if anyone else is having this issue. If so people please post. Could you possibly have an option in the configuraiton program to select the hibernate function? that way on default the more powerful one would be enabled, but we could always specify otherwise.

I have just changed Windows Power Options so that when the power button is pressed (shutdown controller does this when accessories supply is lost) the system hibernates instead of shutting down or turning off. I have several USB devices all plugged in when this happens & it all comes back up exactly where I left it.

please read my first post on this thread, test 2 applies to your senario.....this was shown not to have the same effect, the effect is caused by RR's hibernate proceedure

Well, try the new hibernate (03-10).. I think it may work a bit better.. let me know..

BTW, if you're going to use windows hibernate and you use a DLink card, I STRONGLY suggest to make sure you have the devcon.exe and the Dlink folder in RR -- otherwise you will crash the old DLink driver trying to hibernate.

why would road runner have an option to hibernate if its useless? If you dont have a shutdown controller this is very usefull.

Indeed... I don't have a shutdown controller and that's how I do it always.
