GPS doesn't reduce volume of XM on s/pdif input

I have rrconfig set to reduce the volume 90% but my XMpcr is on s/pdif (which I have set in rrconfig) but the volume doesn't get reduced when iGuidance speaks.

There's no volume control for SPDIF outputs as far as I know.. I have SPDIF onto a 5.1/DTS amp at home and no mater what I do the volume of analog lines is always kept the same... that's because the sound card can't mix the volumes, digitalize it and send it out onto the SPDIF ... in fact, from what I know, only digital wave data from the PC can go out onto the SPDIF output, so my question is: how do you have the audio plugged in first place?

Now to the real point: I can't possibly detect when iGuidance is speaking directions.. the only map I can detect the directioins from is Mappoint (because RR sends them). So basically that reduce volume on GPS is ONLY for Mappoint. Map Monkey has its own controls for volume (so RR does nothing for it).. the only way you could possible get volumes to reduce with iGuandance is if you get iGuidance to reduce the appropriate volume (I don't know that it has such option)..

No, I wasn't referring to the s/pdif OUTPUT, I meant the s/pdif INPUT that my XMpcr card uses to come IN to the soundcard. There's a setting in rrconfig that allows me to select the spdif input line for xm (although I can't read the text saying what it's for). I assumed that it was there so that when the nav system spoke (in addition to other situations), that input line could be muted. I was wondering how my mp3s were always muted when iGuidance spoke but I guess that is actually a function of iGuidance and not RR then, right?

BTW: What are all those parameters for XM used for? Can they be changed?

Ok.. .now I get what you're saying.. it's just unusual to see SPDIF IN on sound cards.. in any case, I am yet to figure out why some audio lines don't seem to respond to RR.. The audio line you specify is to be Unmuted/Muted when start/stop of XM.. but the voice over volume on the GPS will only work with Mappoint..

One thing you can try is:

- check the use line-in plugin, set it for the SPDIF input (Winamp)
- MUTE the SPDIF Playback volume using the windows mixer
- Set the XM Audio Line to DISABLED
- Try again.

If iGuidance by any chance pauses or reduces the Winamp volume (like Map Monkey does), then the volume/pause control will work... That is because when using the Line In Plugin, Winamp is who is actually playing the audio... If that doesn't work, then iGuidance has nothing to control winamp/music volume and chances are slim to none it can do it with any front end.

IGuidance doesnt reduce volume at all as far as i know.

Certainly does, it drops the mp3 volume to about 10% of where it's set so the voice/sounds from nav come through. So did Routis. Maybe yours isn't config'd right?

I'm having a little trouble getting the line-in plugin to work properly with a similar config (XMPCR -> Toslink on Extigy). Can you explain how to set the line-in plugin to use the SPDIF input in Winamp?

I don't even know if that's possible... if that is like a normal audio input line, it should be.. but you'll need to read documentation /web on the line in plugin settings -- I never looked into it. From what I hear, any "recordable" source of audio should work.

Thanks for the reply. It seems that the SPDIF input does not show up in the Recording properties, so I assume it is not a recordable source.
Any other ideas?

Use a different audio input line (a recordable one). You may have to plug the audio into a sound card, tv/fm card or anything that may have an extra input. If you don't have anything, you'll likely need a mixer/switch hardware (to share the audio input line) or an extra sound card (even if USB).

I have setup computers with FM/XM/TV/MUSIC/VIDEO/DVD/PHONE and a single on-board sound card, but it depends on the hardware you get, it can be complicated to get it all to fit together..
