Guide to using RR v4-1-09 NEW HORM features for EWF Systems
Requirements:
- EWF setup and enabled
- RR v4-1-09 and Winamp must be installed on the EWF protected drive (installing on a unprotected drive will cause corruption errors)
- USB flash drive (USB external harddrives won't work)
1: Check to make sure you have the following settings in rr.ini:
hibernateaware=true
hormdrive=x (where x is the drive letter of your connected usb flash/thumb drive without the ":\"; i.e. e, f, g, etc.)
2: Connect usb drive
3: Start RR
4: Clear Winamp Playlist
5: Make sure you have all your required programs running or not running (i.e xport, gpsexec.exe, iGuidance, etc.)
6: Hibernate thru RR
You have now set your HORM point.
After you resume and add your playlist, listen to radio, whatever, it is IMPORTANT to shutdown the system. Shutting down SAVES your resume information to the USB drive to be used on your next powerup/resume.
If you've setup your EWF system correctly, even after shutting down your sytems will result in your system resuming everytime.
If you find that you are not resuming the last playback position, adjust the following rr.ini setting:
resumedelay=x (where x is in seconds)
(this allows TIME for the USB drive to reconnect to the system)
and repeat the steps above.
Simple.
Big thanks mitch for his hard work on getting this feature working correctly.
ALSO, look at DEBUG.txt, there is alot of HORM info there

TY for the Mini-Guide!
Oh, if you use RRCONFIG to set your HORM save Drive, make sure you have it plugged in before u start RRCONFIG
it will see that a USB Removable drive is present, and offer that choice for HORMDRIVE

Is EWF-HORM only available on XPe? Or can it also be enabled on XP Home?
Thanks....

Theres a tutorial under Optimization forum that can take some of the features of XPe and apply them to XP Home. Namely, EWF.

Shouldn't a guide for setting something up explain what it is?

Already of plenty of info in the archives that explains the nitty gritty of HORM & EWF.
Besides, to utilize the info posted above, the user should already know about the topic at hand before attempting to use the new HORM features of RR.

And if one has to ask what is HORM OR EWF then they need to research lots before even asking any Q's.

So the only thing the usb drive is used for is to store the resume data, correct?

Well, I am going to run my OS on an 8GB CF card, so I won't need anything big. I have a 256mb usb stick just laying around I can use.

Can the "USB Drive" be an un-protected partition on the protected drive? Or do I have to use a USB? -CoryF

NOPE, HAS TO BE A USB DRIVE!
unprotected drives, while unprotected, are still cached in the hibernation file
the whole EWF is a hack by microsoft...
im sure it will be better on next embedded os

Well, my interpretation of embedded is not quite the same as running xp with ewf/horm. In an embedded system you usually have the "image" written in a ROM type memory and any thing that would change would be written to ram. So its like comparing apples to oranges...
Makes sence in my head, but probably not here..hehe

Which USB flash drive is most recommended by those who have done this?
Thanks
