I sure am. When in road runner in the top right corner I click on vag scope. It then opens the .exe with the same error as if I opened it directly. I am using vag-com 409.1. Is it compatible with this version? Also it is the shareware version.

Thanks,
Josh

Did you add the line to the RR.conf as per instructions?

the vagScopeMode should be run at the time of RR startup.

Sorry I went home for a day and had dial-up. NOT going to put up with that. Anyway...I can't find the RR.config file. Does the new version have a different config file? Thanks

Josh

For some reason I did not receive the email about this post, sorry I didn't respond.

RR.config is in your roadrunner directory. Hopefully that helps.

Notice of pending update.

Just so everyone knows I'm in the testing phase for a fairly major update. Assuming I don't find any bugs (I have not so far) this will likely be the last code release.

Added Features:
1) Tank tracker
2) Tank offset (plus or minus)
3) Config screen to show above information and let you edit it in RR

Bug Fixes:
1) I now have it starting up vag-com MUCH more quickly.
**You still need to be under 2k RPM
2) Fixed error that would occasionally cause vagScopeMod to quit part way through running vag-com and leave vag-com sitting there.
3) Fixed file writes for offsetting (I don't remember if this made it into the previous version or not)
4) made it so that the vag-com button in the main RR menu actually works. It was not cloasing vag-com and restarting it. Now if you click vag-com it will close the currently running instance for the scope and start up the vag-com instance again. If you click vag-scope it will quit any running instance of vag-com and fire it up for the scope again.

Potential Future Work
1) The one thing on my plate potentially in the future is to figure out a way to have RR move back to the front after the vag-scope automation has finished. At this point I have not discovered a way to force the window back behind RR automatically, so you still have to click on RR to bring it to the front, in the future I may find a solution for this.

Ok all, Sorry it took so long but I have finally uploaded the update. I wanted to do some pretty rigorous testing since this may be the last update for a while, and 2 tanks of fuel can take a while when you go 900 miles on one.

Anyway, all of the updates in my previouse post have been done, including the future updates section.

The following links have been updated in the original post: 1,2,3

Also, I have added instructions to the original post for how to offset your MPG to get a more accurate average.

I have also increased the accuracy of the instantaneous mileage.

Finally, I wanted to give you all a little teaser. I have just ordered a chip from kermaTDI and they were pretty excited about this frontend and have discussed possibly working with me to develop a way to switch tunes from my frontend. I think that would be pretty damn cool and intend to pursue it if I can.

Hope you guys enjoy the update.

I'm having trouble getting it to run. The program crashes on launch. Road runner BV2 skin crashes on launch as well.

VAG Com is installed okay because the VAG COM software sees the device. One thing is the BMV2.zip file in link 1 of the first post is corrupted or contains no data. I found it in the codepackage in the second link and tried that but same result.

I'm sure I've overlooked something. Any ideas?

use the first page, I should (and will) delete the second page thread, the first page is what I am maintaining now.

I have downloaded and extracted all three links. They were zipped on a mac, so I think you may have to navigate a couple folders, but I was able to get all of these to work on both my pc and my mac

If you are seeing all of the archives as corrupt it sounds like there may be something more going on with your system. Can you give me a detailed account of what errors you receive when you try to extract the files, and if you don't get any could you tell me what exactly you see in the extracted folder?

Also, can you tell me what error you get when you crash? If you are not using the same skin as I made I would not be surprised if you did find that the vagScopeMod.exe crashed, it reads and writes labels from the skin.

Finally, what version of vag-com are you running? i've noticed a pattern with ross-tech. it seems they like to change their window handles between versions. i don't know why they do this, but it makes my job harder. I think I may post the version that my software works with as well, hopefully ross-tech doesn't get after me for it...but I don't have the time to support their versions if they change the window name every time.

so, here's the list of info I need and then I can start troubleshooting:

1) What error do you get when extracting the archive?
2) if no error, what do you see in the folder?
3) What error do you get when vagScopeMod Crashes?
4) Are you using a different skin from the one I made?
5) What version of VagScope are you running?
6) How far through automation does VagScopeMod make it before it crashes (does it fire up VagScope etc?

Hopefully that will give me a good start on figuring out what's up.

Also, make sure you read through the install steps closely, I know they're detailed but all the steps are necessary

Thanks!

The error is on link 1. When I attempt to extract it, I get the following error from Winzip: "The Compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupt" There is no error on link 2 or 3. I shouldn't need link 3 unless I want to work with the source code, correct?

Also, I tried downloading and extracting it on another system and it did not work. Got an end of signature error.

P.S. - You're not making this program for the Mac, are you :-)?

3) What error do you get when vagScopeMod Crashes?

"VagScopeMod encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : vagscopemod.exe P2 : 1.0.0.0 P3 : 483df378
P4 : system P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4333ae87 P7 : 390a P8 : 288
P9 : system.componentmodel.win32

4) Are you using a different skin from the one I made?

This is probably the issue since I couldn't extract the skin from the file.

Release 805

Nope. It never displays anything.

Ok, well, it should not crash right away like that. I have that same version installed on my car computer now, so it can't really be the code.

Can you make sure you have .net 2.0? That is necessary and could be the reason you are crashing. Once we make sure you have .net 2.0 we'll see if you get any further.

You appear to be right on the zip file being corrupt, I must have missed it when I checked all the files last night. I am at work right now and don't have interenet access on my personal laptop, I will re-upload it tonight.

Make sure you have everything installed in the default directories. I did not do any searching, so I assumed vag-com is in its default directory (C:\ross-tech\Vag-com I believe) and that Roadrunner is in its default directory (although I think this may not matter.)

Also, I have release 704, so I can't guarantee that this will work for the release you have...but it should at least start vag-com. So try the first two things above so we can at least get it starting vag-com, if we run into more problems we will deal with them then.

Let me know if any of that works.

The new version of Vag-com is in C:\Ross-tech\VCDS rather than Vag-com. I changed the name of the folder but that didn't seem to help.

I have version 2.0 of .net. When I ran the installer, it installed it last night. Checking the add/remove programs it shows that 2.0 is in there.

ok, I think this is a version issue with vag-com.

Could you try to get vag-com version 704 and give it a shot?

Also, I do need to check that you have a tdi. I have never tested this with a gas vw...but this isn't a concern until we actually get vag-com running.

Edit:: if you wnat to try using your version of vag-com then make sure that the .exe in the folder is called VagCom.exe. So the full path should be C:\Ross-Tech\VAG-COM\VagCom.exe, Thing is that chaging the names like that could break vag-com itself.

It's been renamed VCDS now. I can't find the old version 704 to try. I did get the skin okay, though.

I renamed it but still crashes on launch, so I think I need version 704. Any ideas where I can get it?
