Why not make it a standard location for plugins but you can change it in the rr.ini file? That way, people without a clue or care will have their plugins work properly while those who know enough to change the path can do so?
Same with backgrounds. Default is a \backgrounds folder but you can change it if you like.

What about the skin.ini? Any entries from the rr.ini in the skin.ini WILL overide the rr.ini settings.

I've just recently started messing with some of the newer plug-ins(RRTube, RRmedia, Elcolendar etc..) and for someone who has never really done anything except basic music functions on their carppc, I must say it can me a real pita getting things installed and functioning. I'm not complaining, I really appreciate all of the genius on this site. But I think Enforcer is 100% correct in stating that we need some sort of standardization.

All plugins should be in a subfolder in Road Runner\Plugins, makes it easy for everyone.

Hard-coded.
The same standard should be applied to non-skin specific .exe's.

I totally, and 100% agree with both points.
1) a SET folder for plugins:
The Road Runner is getting more and more cluttered up with all of the plugins (And a big surge of them in the past 6 months or so)
On my system, I have 16 folders in the Road Runner folder for plugins, as well as 36 (THIRTY SIX!) dll's in the root Road Runner folder. It is just out of control!!!
I also think it should be:
Road Runner\Plugins
and inside that sub folders (\RRMedia,\MovieTimes ect...), as many plugins and packages, scripts ect have many files.
I can put the DLL's in a Plugins folder, as Enforcer mentioned, RR does not care where they are if they are registered.
But I can NOT move the 16 folders, MovieTimes, Gas, and so forth, as they would no longer work.
2) An entry in the rr.ini to point to whatever folder, such as:
PluginsLocation=C:\Program Files\Road Runner\Plugins
This would still let people choose where they are located, while still allowing a standard "Root" location.

I vote for "pluginspath"
Seems more "in line" with the rest of RR's dir path variable names.

XXXXPATH is akin to RR.ini variables not RRPath\folders. And I this this could be confusing to Newbies.
EDIT: OOps, disregard the above, now I understand.

OK, resurrected this.
I now have another suggestion.
All plugins should have an indicator that has the same name as the plugin, so that other plugins can tell if they are running or not.

Now that one I like, too. I can see several obvious uses right away.
Again, which one did I miss?

I think that is a great idea.
#1 A plugin with issues with another plugin would allow some error checking and maybe react diffently if the other one causing the problem is running.
#2 If someone makes a plugin that could use info that another plugin already populates a label then you could just grab that, instead of doubling the work the the other plugin did in the fist place, which could help to keep things efficient.

Also if I know RRMedia is running then RRUpd8 on a successful copy of new files to RR's Musicpath can get RRMedia to reread the music. (I assume their is a command for this, I did ask in the rrmedia thread but you nicely ignored my questions)
