Hi,
Being a Noob + non english speaking, I think standardisation of plugin is great idea.
In each tutos, I would explain how to set up the plugin for most used skins (eg LSXVoid, DigitalFX,etc ...)
Also since you have so many international users on this web, maybe find someone for most common languages to make a translation of those tutos.

well i agree with all you said in the locked thread with the exception of needing all plugins installed in road runner\plugins. It'll take all of 2 mins to add "pluginspath" to RR's source just like i did for "backgroundpath". I could even put "road runner\plugins" as the default, but allowing people to define where there plugin path is will add to the customization RR is all about

I don't see why you would either want plugins installed all over the place, or not in a standard place.
I agree customisation is good but why have where plugins go be customisable. If they are all in one place then when it comes to installing a plugin everyone (especially the n00bs) will know where it goes.
I also think backgrounds should have a fixed place ie Road Runner\Backgrounds\,
again you don't want every skin installing backgrounds all over the place.
we have to strike the right balance between customisable and usability.

I have to agree with E on this as well. To make something standard, means to set in stone not allow to be customized as that would defeat the whole purpose of have a set location for all the plugin's to be placed at in the first place...

Not to rehash an old argument, but many of my backgrounds are pictures I've taken and therefore, I want them viewable in my pictures directory, so my backgroundspath points to a subdirectory of "My Pictures". Now I have to not only transfer new backgrounds fron the skinners directory (wherever he decides to put them, but also modify the .skin files and ini files to point to my RR.ini defined backgroundspath before I can use a new skin.
I see this going the same way. I currently have all my plugins in the RR root awaiting this kind of standardization, but what if I want to put them in folders like "$RRpath$/Active Plugins" so I can manage my hardrive with folders for active and inactive plugins. Or for whatever reason, the end user should be recommended a default location, but whereever its set in RR.ini all new skins/plugins should check and use it.... and be useable from the enduser designated location.

Well the (my) recommendation is that the plugins have no paths hard decoded they should all be relative. so then it doesn't matter where someone installs it.
RR doesn't care where it is, as long as the DLL is registered.
Obviously non DLL plugins are a different matter and they will nedd other considerations.

well i'll speak to mitch about adding a plugin folder to the new installer. Should i write up a readme about plugin installation instructions and such as well? Least that way its on the local system and you dont have to go back to mp3car to look it up

just my 2p's worth , i really like the way you guys are getting rr organised , its needed, E with his threads on plugins and sonix browser, i take my hat off to you guys. a read me yes i think its time for a complete new help file on rr all together. but from say 80% of threads here , help files and read me's seem to be over looked .
now i am no expert but i am willing to do a help file and complete rr from getting in started to installing stuff and what ever anyone else thinks should be in there , but my knowledge on some stuff that i don't use and can never use here is limited.
so if you guys think its worth it i can do.

I think we need a consensus (as opposed to my unilateral list) on what we want with the plugins first. But yes instructions for both users and developers is definitely needed
