I have the full version of Bluesoleil (version 6.2) now. I'm able to make a serial port connection, send and receive contacts, but I still cannot view my cell's phonebook (BS says "the operation is not supported").
When I go into Bluetooth Places > LG Dare, I see Bluetooth Dial-Up Netoworking, Bluetooth File Transfer, Bluetooth Messages, Bluetooth Object Push, Bluetooth Phonebook, and Bluetooth Serial Port (COM8).
DUN seems to work, though I didn't go beyond the setup (VZW charges a lot for tethering).
BT File Transfer seems to work, I'm able to view the files on my phone.
BT Messages doesn't work ("The operation is not supported").
Object Push seems to work. My phone says "check number or email," while Bluesoleil says "My business card was sent to LG Dare."
Phonebook doesn't work ("The operation is not supported").
Serial Port seems to work, I'm able to get and maintain a strong connection.
From my phone, I clicked on "brows files," and was able to see my desktop's root directory (though it was "empty").
Once again, this was on a Verizon Wireless LG Dare.

I really don't think LG has any backup software.. Verizon takes care of that through a certain program in Get It Now. They charge $3/mo for the service.

For what it's worth, I had to sell my LG phone so that I could use various features on my CC9060 bluetooth install. It's due to LG's only using bluetooth v1.3 (I think) where as Sony Ericssons use v2+.

The LG Dare? Nope. Just good ol' crippled Verizon firmware.

The cable is no problem, my phone uses a standard USB cable for charging and data. I can use bitpim to back up my phone, etc etc. But my main thing is to get this bluetooth stuff working on here so I can put it in my car. There are times when I need to talk to someone, or someone calls me, while I'm driving and I either have to pull over or miss the call (I REFUSE to pick up my phone when I'm driving, the ticket is between $150-$200 here in NY).

get windows tinted ;-)
so then if USB works then BT should work too the only wuestion is to finf how your "bitpim" requests the data. on all most of the phones data is exchanges via AT commands due to simple reason - cost of development is low. the only exeptions are iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobiles .. thos need special modules

Bitpim actually enables me to see the phone's file system, so the user is able to literally do a full backup of the phone.
We may be going in a circle with this, but how does a car's bluetooth work? You mentioned in an earlier post that they use the Hands-Free Profile, right? Does the HFP send/receive AT commands?
What do the iPhones, BlackBerries, and Windows Mobile phones use?

BT nativly was designed as wireless extention to serial port. So all service profiles wraped around serial ports. new profiles such as HS - Headset or HFS - Hands Free uses both data (audio pakage transfer) and serial port function at the same time.
Phone book spesifically: HFS profile does not support poone book nativly so it relys on servie part of AT commands to be used to request caller ID. HFS doesnt support phone book browsing or anything like that, so if some one wants to get a hold of phone book you still need to get it via AT commands. There is a diference in at command sent via HFS and throug serial port as they are controller by different IEEE documents. I can attach speck doc if i can find it here.
Other devices:
iPhone nativaly relys on vCard, how to work w/ it from BT prespective I dont know yet. Blue Solile claims they have support for it in their API
BlackBerry - never had one have no ifo about it
Windows Mobile - they need Active Sync connection, there is special Active Sync protocol that you can apply to serial port (there you can youse AS native commands to request address book and other information) I didnt do nay programs with AS yet.

Would it be possible to accomplish something similar to what your program will do, but instead use a USB cable? Might prove to be easier...

It's been a while since there has been a post here.... Any updates?
I was playing around with a USB connection from my phone to my Vista laptop.
I was able to get BitPim to recognize it and pull the phonebook data from my phone.
I was able to get my USB Modem COM port to react to AT commands (via temp's software) which only started DATA calls, but still I can't get the Serial COM port to react to any AT commands..
Any ideas? At least there's SOME progress...
