There are no commands for VLC for those functions -- but sendkey "might" work (don't really know).
That bug with MPC has been identified and fixed for the next release -- it only happens on some machines, but you can pm me with your email so I can send you an updated MPC player. There's no issues with the other players.

I have a problem though (mplayerc):
I call the video_player.skin with the command "VIDEO". The videos.m3u gets loaded and it resumes the last video and its last position (one istance of mplayerc.exe)
I call the video_browser.skin with the command "LIST". The browser appears. I select a video with the command "SELECT"
RR leaves the browser screen. I'm back on the player screen, the video is shown. But the previous video is still playing in the background. There are now two instances of mplayerc.exe.
Windows 7Pro, but also happens in compatibility mode for WinXP SP3.
