Looks like only 6 people using this plugin. I guess there is no point to make it native in RR

Hehehehe You must be feelin' REALY lazy If you ahve a Radio Shark already, all it takes is patching the RS.exe, and putting the files in the RR directory. Takes about 2 minutes to have it up and working, and it works really well!

As for 10 people using this plugin, you need to get Guino to add "Radio Shark" as supported hardware in the FAQ Radio section. I actually purchased my Radio Shark after stumbling across this thread by accident. Actually, I had no idea what a Radio Shark was at the time. Funny enough, the people at Best Buy didn't either! Took 3 employees about 15 minutes to help me find it, the computer showed 4 in stock, but no one knew where!! Turns out it is with the Ipod accesories, and NOT in the computer section... go figgure.

A Radio Shark seemed like the best USB option to go with, as my CarPC has no PCI slots so an internal card was not an option. (I just purchased a 2nd one for my desktop PC and use the plugin in "stand alone" mode)

Many people look at the FAQ to determine what to purchase, and may miss this thread completely.

Now, I have one suggestion/request for the plugin, that should not be hard to implement.

How hard would it be to implement code to save a preset by pressing and holding one of the preset buttons? (Like a normal head unit does). As RR already has code for tapping a button, and can issue another command if the button is held, that part is covered. Saving the station to the ini file is a feature you recently added to the plugin so that part is pretty much covered. It would be a matter of simply passing the preset button number pressed, and adding/updating that specific line in the ini.

If radioSHARK would be native in RR all preset functionality(add, edit, delete) will be exactly as other radios in RR.

PS. I can't believe it... all this hard work to implement radiSHARK and only 10 people using it....

I noticed that the plugin takes it skin from the rr.ini file, and not from the resume.ini file if its there, which might confuse some peeps. Will the source be available for the plugin ?

cheers

Thanks for a feedback.

Now I'm thinking to implement radioSHARK natively in RR. In that case it will read the skin path exactly the same way as RR and the code will be available for everyone.

This is an LSX VOID 1.5 skin for radioShark that I started. I can't get a lot of things working:

1. Some of the labels are working for me while others aren't (radio_frequency works, radio_band doesn't).

2. The skin renders at a lower quality than it actually is. (I notice this with every skin used with this plugin though.)

3. I've been through this thread several times, and still I have no idea how one goes about displaying a list of preset stations.

4. When I choose a station with "TUNE" the plugin minimizes itself before showing the numosk.skin. In fact, this thing also jumps on top of every window other, which brings us to...

5. I cannot use the awesome popup menu functionality of LSX VOID because the plugin jumps on top of the menu--and then reloads itself for some reason--as soon as the menu is clicked.

I stayed up until 3am playing with this thing, and I know that if I had the source code, this post would never exist. I hate asking questions on forums; I'm impatient, I can't wait for an answer. Instead I figure things out myself and post only as an absolute last resort. If I had the source, in place of this post what you would find here is a zip file with the skin, and perhaps an updated version of the plugin.

Evolution, I really appreciate the work you've done here, and in fact I too bought the radioShark after I saw that a plugin to use it with RR was available. But to tell you the truth I'm a little irritated: half my reason for choosing the radioShark was that you promised the source for the plugin when you started. And now I see that you're not even using a radioShark anymore and still the code isn't released.

I don't think you should integrate this plugin into RR as it is; it's still very immature. You should simply release the code. No, I can't say I'd take responsibility for updating it. If I had the time, I would've just wrote my own. But I would definitely contribute, perhaps with a few updates and skins, and many others would too.

Again thanks for all your work, Evolution. If you have any easy solutions for my problems with this skin, I'd like to hear them. But otherwise I can't say I'm going to spend much more time on this without the source, which is like working blind.

Evolution VIII: Would you care to make a standalone version that works in Visual Basic 6 so that i can intergrade into my own menu? (I dont use RR). That would be awesome if you could do that. Feel free to put a pole up to ask if its worth your time or not if you feel that its a lot of work to do that.

Thanks for your time,
David

Actually you are the only one who has this problem. If radioSHARK will be integrated into RR you will be able to use standard radio_player.skin and your probmes will go away even with VOID skin.
