I've had that before with GE crashing, V3 didn't crash and V4 did.. haven't tried V4 on the same machine again, but V3 no longer works, so we have to deal with it. I do not know the reason/solution for that as of yet.

Well, I fixed the GE crash problem. Now that is GREAT.
How did I fixed it?
Click Start -> Programs -> Google Earth -> Set Google Earth to DirectX Mode.
If that doesn't work, try OpenGL mode.
Now I need to lookup some skin for that.

and my humble contribution to this ... I've just made a screen for this, its just the basics (I dont have inet in my car) so I've included only tilt+/-, day/night mode, toggle gps. If you have FD running in the background it will show some info on the top.
I have to mention that the jpg are from pwcmed's triton skin. I've just changed them a bit and added the buttons, no credit for that
I have a small issue with the "GE_SHOWGPS" indicator not showing up. Any comments are welcome..
and once again, thanks again Guino for this great plugin
ps. btw the triton skin is 800x480 resized to 800x600 ...

i ran this for the first time in the car today. Do you need internet connection to start it? it seems like it hangs on "initializing google earth" even when i'm connected to my cell phone 230kb connection.

I start it on my car everyday with no internet and it works fine.. I have seen problems starting GE with low-end video cards, as well as 1 user saying he couldn't start it with no internet (he got an error message though).
I'd try GE by itself in your car first -- once you've made sure it works by itself, then you should try the plugin.

Cache - ?
Guys - just loaded the latest minus GPS and dang looks promising. I am making a long trip tomorrow.
Since many people have had experience with this now, and new work - could someone offer for me a solid way to cache some states - I have plenty of disk just was not sure the best way to do this as I may not have my EVDO? Guino?
I know the app/tweak that was offered but am still very much a rookie with GE so help would be great......
I assume Guino you are just using this as you said as a WOW vs GPS is that correct?
Thanks for the great work.

Yay! It works now with the DLL version.
...well, almost. I can't get any of the buttons to do anything (fly to, directions, etc.). Maybe I'm not typing in the address with correct syntax.
I tried:
1950 Sawtelle, 90025
1950 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025
1950 Sawtelle Blvd Los Angeles CA 90025
etc.
The address bar, clear, and gps toggle all work, but none of the other buttons on the bottom do anything.
Feature requests:
If I show the left bar (ctrl-alt-b), RR closes it again right away. I would rather have a toggle on/off button for it as I may want to turn layers on/off.
KML Log: I would like this to take the place of GPS Secure by saving the KML log and periodically uploading it to a server or copying it to a flash key.
GAS/iGuidance compatibility: We now have Gas prices showing the route in iGuidance (awesome!)... I would like it to also do the same in RREarth, and even better, make it so when you plot a route in iGuidance or RREarth, it automatically plots the route in the opposite program as well. That way I can type a route once in to either program and then toggle between the two.
Car Icon: Can you change the GPS location icon in RREarth to a pic of your car?
Other GooPs features: Mostly tracking all your friends in GE, but the speed track and other features of GooPs are also cool. I really liked being able to switch between freeway/street/chase-mode zoom/tilt angles using my SKINbedder GooPs skin. I'm going to miss that, but it is well worth it for the ability to enter addresses which my GooPs solution lacked.
Anyway, great work Guino. Please keep expanding upon this project as it truly is the nav system of the future now that more and more people are getting internet in the car. Plus it's free and always up to date with every possible POI. Can't beat that.

I've cached the whole city I live in there and use it daily. I also have GPRS in the car so I can do routing no problem, but that's not very common for me.
There's a cache builder application that was made by a user here at mp3car.com:
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...=cache+builder
That's what I used... however, I did go over most "common" places I know to make sure they were cached. 1 City took me about 300Mb so caching an entire state would be kind of crazy.

Today I found out that in my case with no Internet connection it also doesn't start. Program gives a message that there are problems to connect with a server. I thingk cashe maps will be solution.

I tried: 1950 Sawtelle 90025 and it worked fine here. Fly-To and Directions ONLY work with a working internet connection. It is NOT necessary to enter any commas in the addresses ( , ).
I'd have to make a new option to make it allow displaying the side bar -- not very hard but kind of beats the point of integration.
I'm not sure what kind of output file GPSSecure makes, but it's not hard to make a position log, can you post a sample file ?
It's a pain in the *** to make GE display the GPS position AND other icons at the same time. But it would not be hard to fly-to or route to the location (without displaying an actual icon for it).
You CAN change the GPS Icon (and title) on the GPS.KML.INI file.
You CAN make different Tilt angle settings, and you can set auto-zoom levels.

Ok, I think I found a potential issue with starting the plugin without an internet connection, those having such issue, please redownload the plugin again -- Don't forget to regsvr32 the new DLL or it may not work.
