Hey John. I'm loving the new skin! Quick question...are you working with Mitch on his new updates with the radio codes in this thread?
I ask this because I just installed his updates and everything works great with your DFX4 (so far...that I've played with) except one problem...I no longer have a logo (static/spinning/compass/anything...I've tried a few) in the center of the main menus. I just get the gray box that is the semi transparent background over the wallpaper.
Any Ideas why this may be? Do you think it had anything to the older version of RR (11/07) that I had to go back to or is there a dll that I didn't register that I should have?
I have also posted in Mitch's forum in the link above to see if he can help out too.
Thanks for all the hard work!!!

You can't use DFX4.0 with anything but the most recent Road Runner. Mitch's version does not work. with DFX4.0

The Live View Radar works as follows:
1) If you set your Lat, Lon & zoom level in the ini, (DigitalFX 4.0\Scripts\WeatherLive\Settings.ini) it will center on that area and zoom level.
2) It gets your Lat & Lon from RR if #1 is not set.
3) If neither 1 or 2 are available, it will Start with it showing the entire US. (Sorry, Weather.com is not yet supporting radar overlays for over seas.
You can also set in the INI to ignore the GPS location, and use what you have set for your Lat and Lon in the ini.

The skins for Map Point are very out dated, and I think only work with older versions, as some of the key commands and such were changed. Where do you live? (Its not in your profile)

Song Identification
Ok, someone was asking about a way to identify a song playing on the radio or what not, and I got to researching a little bit
I found a great little program called tunatic. (only 500k) It will "listen" to a song, and will tell you the name of the the song and the artist. In my tests here, I have not found a song that it does not identify correctly.
The audio source can be from your line in, wav line, mic, "What you hear" ect.. Whatever you have set as your recording device in windows sound panel.
I was voice chatting with BlueZX3, and asked him to play a kind of obscure song that was not that popular. I held my mic up to the speakers, and in a couple of seconds told him the name of the song and the artist
There is no API, shortcut keys, or COM interface to get the title of the song from the program, thus no way to save the song and artist to a text file. All I could do was just embedded it into the skin. This means you will have to remember the song name, or write it down.... I know... so old school, but currently no way around it. (you can always use the scribble pad in the skin for a more hi-tech approach to using pen and paper )
How it works:
With a live connection to the Internet, it can analyze the song on the spot by transfering the audio to their site to do the lookup.
As many do not have always on Internet in the car, me included, I put together a script that will allow you to save a sample wav file of what you are listening to to the hard drive. When you get to a hopspot, or at home, you can then select that sample in the list, play it, and it can then analyze it over the net. Unfortunately RR converts Underscores to spaces, and I can not use a hyphen, as thats how I pass command line parameters to the program. Thus, the name of the samples, as you will see below, look a bit funky. It basically the month, day, year, hour, minutes & seconds that it saves the sample name as.
Here is a screen cap of it in action. The one cool part of embedding it, is the line in the interface is an occiliscope that shows the audio it is listening to.

In that case I recommend iGuidance any day over Mappoint. It is much more touch screen friendly. Garmin is also pretty good now, but more complicated to use, as it does not have an on screen keyboard to enter address's and such.
Currently iGuidance embeds in RR seamlessly, as well as being able to lower the music volume when it speaks, and bring the GPS screen to the front when you are close to a turn, and going back to the screen you were on when you make the turn.
You may also want to keep an eye on THIS THREAD. We have CarPC meets in different locations all over the state of Florida every other month . Its a great way to see other peoples setups and get ideas, as well as a bunch of people that are willing to help work out the kinks and answer any questions.

This was an error on my part. Look in the rr root folder for a file called exec.exe. Copy it to:
DigitalFX 5.0\iGScripts
Don't MOVE it just copy it. This will fix the problem. This is corrected for the next release.

A couple things come to mind....
Open the DFX skin fo;der, and the helper files sub folder. Double Click active winamp and install it.
Then try the play album, if it does not work, then:
Close Road Runner. Open WInamp stand alone. You will need to open the library window, and add your MP3 folder to the library.
This is to be replaced with code in the next release to use the RMMedia Database play album command.

John,
I have just a little gripe with your quotes here. Nothing major, and certainly nothing to get upset about, but fair is fair, and facts are facts, and quotes are quotes...
First off, I DID search and DID know about the weather being a problem back in April or May. I was also aware of the patch Guino created on 05/27. My issue was with something specific on the 1/5 day screens, not the weather screens in general.
Quote: Originally Posted by quantum

I dropped in the 2 files from 05/27/08, which i believe was the weather fix.
I am connected to the web.
GPS antenna is working fine, I know because the speedo, etc work great.
I put in my town and state in the config.
The weather screen opens, and I can load the most recent Sat, Temp and Radar maps dated today.
The problem is I cannot get the 1 day and 5 day views to display anything. No images, no temp, forecast, humidity, nuthin'. Those 2 screens just have the labels, but no info that goes with them.
What am I doing wrong? I thought the 2 files from 05/27 would fix that.
TY in advance.
Doug133 was kind enough to respond and ask which 2 files i was talking about and my reply was:

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/road...her-fixed.html
I put them in the RR root folder. I thought that was all that is needed to fix the weather. Since I am getting the Sat, Temp and Radar maps OK, it seems I must have done something right, but I can't get anything on the 1 and 5 day screens...
TY!
I tinkered around a little with the skin files, went back and read through the help files and then, since I thought my question may have got overlooked in the flurry of posts (understandable), I asked the question again. I also started to realize that the 2 "problems" I was having MIGHT be related, as posted below:

Also, I noticed I wasn't getting the city/state info on top of the Gauges screen, is there a setting in RRConfig for that?
The GPS antenna is working, cus I get speed and altitude on that screen.
This is about when you had your snit and quoted all the questions, and hey, I can understand if you got a little frustrated, we've all been there. And, your apology was accepted at that point, no harm, no foul. I didn't even think twice about it.

Please never feel threatened to post in this thread, I guess I just ask that you read up a bit, to see if the question or topic has been covered in the thread, Help File, Bug Tracker, and Faq's.
So appolagies all around, I did not mean to offend or scare anyone off.
Treetop777 posted this reply, which immediately solved the problem. As I said earlier, this was not in the help file you put together for DFX4.0, and if it is, I'd like to know where. It appears (near as I can tell) to be a RR Update. So, I was looking in the help files for something that had nothing to do with the skin, it was a RR Config setting (OK, I didn't even think it was RR, I thought it was something to do with the skin), my fault.

In DFX, that whole area where the labels are has a hidden "locate" command - click it.
A big thank you for the fix went out to TreeTop777, that solved the problem. I went back to the DFX help file looking for this info, and it wasn't there. I can only assume it was a RR Config thing and probably in a different thread.

The solution you copied and pasted was not the answer to the specific problem I had. I already had the Sat and other maps working.

Based on some of the valid bug reports, i thought this may be a bug. It wasn't, ok fine. Maybe someone will come along one day, have a similar problem, find Treetop's response and solve it without asking a question.
That's what a forum is all about. I missed it cus I was searching in the wrong spot. My bad, 1000 apologies.
Many people have an area of expertise we can offer to the community. Your's is skinning, mine was the night vision project and maybe some fabrication from a been there, done that standpoint. We all contribute, we all benefit, the world keeps spinning, life goes on.
I am also of the belief that there is no such thing as a stupid question, but that is the teacher in me I suppose. In all fairness, I have seen some posts on here that are easily answered with a search.
And, when it gets a little frustrating, blowing off some steam can't hurt.
So, like I said, no hard feelings I hope. That is not my intention. I can certainly appreciate the hard work and many hours you put into this skin. Just wanted to set the record straight for these quotes and the quotes in the other thread you pasted them into.
Friends?
