Thanks for the plug-in E. It's been working great so far.

I forgot to post about how to use the new rrgas plugin:

After the screen is loaded, there are some options on the right set of buttons.
-Pressing ZIP button will bring up the NUMOSK and allow you to type in your zip code.
-Pressing the Within button will bring up the numosk and allow you to limit your search to a certain distance. If you press and hold this button, it will sort the results by the closest station.
-Pressing any of the fuel grades will sort the list by that grade.
In the very soon to be released update, if you press and hold each fuel grade, it will become your default, and every time you navigate to the rrgas skin it will sort the results by that fuel grade.
-Pressing the info at the top (last update, sort method) will force a refresh if web connectivity is avaialable
-Pressing each gas station will bring up iGuidance, clear any previous route, enter the coods of the station and provide directions to it. Soon will be more support for other nav programs, (freedrive already supported by E's personal version and the rrgas plugin.)

Make sure you've already opened up IG before navigating to it, otherwise, for some reason, the GPS_OVERLAY doesn't work. Also, make sure you have the plugin in it's own folder in the RR folder (c:\...\Road Runner\RRGas\) for the paths to work correctly.

I also just noticed that the battery slider doesn't work at 100% charge, I did the calculations wrong. Open up exectbl.ini and replace these lines:

Code:
"ONSKINSTART","StrRepl;powermon_battpercent;%;;BATTERY||EVAL;BATT;$BATTERY$*656",menu.skin "TIMER","EVAL;BATT;$BATTERY$*656",menu.skin

with these lines:
Code:
"ONSKINSTART","StrRepl;powermon_battpercent;%;;BATTERY||EVAL;BATT;$BATTERY$*655",menu.skin "TIMER","EVAL;BATT;$BATTERY$*655",menu.skin

Basically at 100% the slider position was 65600, but the top of the slider is 65535, and RR won't display the solid slider if it's beyond the slider range.

Same applies to FreeDrive, it has to be running in the skin already to receive the coords otherwise they get sent before it is loaded up.

I'm pretty sure these problems are me not setting it up correctly...

when I click "preview skin" for it in rrconfig, nothing shows up
when I open the skin, it doesn't go full screen, and I can see a good bottom chunk of my windows background.

that was pretty much it, it hung a couple of times, but I think that was from all the starting/stopping of RR, there was probably an unclean exit somewhere. Also, I need to update to the newest version of RR.

I've never been able to get the preview day/preview night buttons to work for any skin.

This skin is designed to be run at 800x480, it appears that your monitor is running at 800x600. There are a few ways to fix that. Either change the resolution on your display to it's native resolution (the majority of widescreen 6"-10" screens use 800x480) or if your video card will not support it, you can open up the general.ini in the skin folder and change these lines:

show width=800
show height=480

to

show width=800
show height=600

This will not provide optimum results though, since you will have to stretch certain things, and some things do not stretch (like the GPS overlay) or line up correctly.
If you can display your monitor at the right resolution, that would be best.

Also, make sure you have at least the official 11/07 version, the newer beta versions are what the skin is designed for (specifically the 05/08 weatherfixed version) and with it you will be able to access the weather, see solid sliders, and other things that are new since the 11/07 version.

If you want to post a little more info on your system, I can try and help you get it sorted out.

at first glance, it looks like the lowest setting in windows is 800x600. I'll take another look though when I get back from my trip Saturday afternoon. It's an 8" monitor with a native resolution of 800x600 that can go up to 1024x768 according to the indtruction manual. Model # of the monitor is XDXS080Z, not sure of the brand.

ok, looks like you have a 4:3 display. This skin is optimized for 15:9 displays. That's ok though, you can open the general.ini like I was saying and change the info from the previous post I mentioned.

Issues you will have:

Labels will not center on the buttons vertically, they will show on the right button, but a little higher up than they should be.

Album art and other images will be stretched and not in an optimum resolution.

Menu's may not position in the right location

GPS overlays will not stretch, so if you need me to, I can post a pre-stretched GPS overlay.

I was eventually going to make a 800x600 version, but since that's not what I use, it's been put on the back burner.

Hopefully this helps

BTW: your monitor is manufactured by Shenzhen Xindaxin Technology Co. Ltd. according to google.

I wanted to tweak the skin a little bit. It was sort of bothering me that almost 20 pixels around the entire edge were wasted pixels. The physical edge of the screen is the easiest place to touch, and there weren't any buttons there anymore. I took out the border and made the buttons a little bigger. They are now 121x63 pixels, (104x58 before, 26% larger) and there is no wasted space. Also, I made the fonts a little bigger so that they are easier to read. Here's a screen shot of what it might look like:

The sliders are going to be tweaked too, I just didn't get to them yet. The songpos will remain, and is a larger clickable area than it looks like, the other two sliders will be put somewhere else.

I'll have to go through each and every line of code again to get it all to line up and work, so there will be a version 3.0 coming very soon. Since I'll be going through every line of code, I am going to organize the codes better (look at the weather details skin labels for example) so that buttons and labels will be easier to find. I'll also release the PSD's and a help file that will show what each screen is capable of.

Photoshop PSD's? I could swear you did 'em in paint or some other program.

Looks good. I'll wait for V3 with all the tweaks before updating again, WHEW!

I'm not sure whether to take that as a compliment or not.

I've always used PS for my skins, except for the fabled "MS Paint" skin, but that was concept only.

With PS, I can make sure everything lines up correctly, and apply the button bevels, and keep the transparency. There are very few .psd's for this skin, and V3 will only have maybe 4 or 5 different .psd's.

I'm playing around with a few ideas for v3, nothing major, but there might be different screen shots posted that will probably not make it into v3...

Also, thinking about adding the RRmedia plugin, maybe.

I think that I'm going to take it as a compliment anyway, because if I did this in Paint, then I gotta be good.

The whole point of this skin is to be easy to read in direct sunlight, nice and solid, lightweight, and consistent to keep it safe to use while driving. The other current popular skins have a lot of features, but there's some day to day usability lost in that concept. The fonts are large and clear, the buttons are in the same location in as many screens as possible. There are music controls on every screen, and the menu and back are in the same corners as almost every single windows app.

A lot of the changes I am making to it are a result of finally being able to test this in the car. I've kept the background black with white text, and when the sun is in the worst position, I can still read the screen (no-transflective screen here.) On bumpy roads, having the buttons touch the edge helps a lot. If this all means that I have to sacrifice a little graphic appeal, that's ok. I hardly look at it (you know, since I'm driving, rather than staring at my cool graphics), so having graphic appeal means nothing to me.

ok, after changing the general.ini file, it seems fine. The streching isn't big enough to be an issue. The GPS strecthed fine, too, but I don't have it embedded, so that may be the difference.

There is one thing that's been annoying me that I've been trying to troubleshoot. I use my desktop to test different settings and skins before taking them out to my carPC. Normally there's no difference, but for some reason my desktop displays the speed gauge just fine (although it's stuck at 0 since my computer's not hooked up to a GPS unit) while my carPC just displays a big white rectangle where the album art and speed gauge should be. Clicking the white rectangle does nothing. Both the carPC and the desktop have the latest version of flash (9.0.124.0). It works on the desktop in both 800x480 and x600, and it doesn't work on the carPC in either resolution. Any suggestions on what to try to get the speed gauge working? I don't use album art, but a speed gauge would look a lot nicer than a white block.

I really like this skin (very intuitive and compact) and really want to get it working smoothly.

The GPS that doesn't stretch is the buttons that are overlaid on top of the GPS, In the v3 release, I will have a set of 800x600 overlays for those that use that resolution.

As far as the flash is concerned, try to open the wh_speedo.swf file. It should load in internet explorer. If it doesn't, then there is an issue with flash on that machine.

Guino did a write up about the flash player v9 and the white box issue maybe try the stuff in that link and see if that helps.
