Simplistique Skin Release - download and screenshots

This is my first attempt at a skin. It is released as a beta version. I wanted to create a skin that was responsive, clean and intuitive whilst keeping a snazzy OEM look. And this is what I came up with. It uses simple, clean, flat images. The buttons were located with ease-of-use whilst driving in mind and to make the skin intuitive, whilst essential information is displayed at all times in the same format throughout.

Download here (updated 12th September 2006): SIMPLISTIQUE_v0.3.zip

To Install:
- install fonts from the !FONTS folder yo your windows fonts folder (default: C:\Windows\Fonts) by simply copying the files there
- copy all the "simplistique" folder to your RR skin folder
- The default logo is a BMW badge. This can be changed by changing the logo.swf to one fo your own. If you want to use a JPEG file, you can simply edit the menu.skin file

The skin is in 800x600 resolution. This should run on widescreen (e.g. 800x480) resolutions as the images will just get stretched out although I advise changing the Arial Narrow font to regular Arial for a better display.

SMALL BUG
Caution: There is a small bug with older versions of RoadRunner that Guino has confirmed that causes RR to close with this skin. If you try to use the volume up and volume down buttons in the video BROWSER (not player) RR will close down. Guino has said this will be fixed in the next release of RR.
Link to thread discussin this: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-bug-tracker/70382-volume-control-rr-video-browser-causing-rr-crash-close.html

*The TV skin embeds an application and does not use the WinAmp TV plugin.

*GPS embeds iGuidance Europe. There is a destinator skin also created. You will need to edit the menu.skin file to change the path of your destinator/iGuidance fodler if it is different from the default.

Not Included:
- Satelite radio (As I have no experience and no way of finding out how to use this someone else will probably have to make it. We don't have sat radio in the UK!)
- Mobile Phone [possible future addition] (as Phoco doesn't work with my phone yet!)

All my skins are drawn in Macromedia Flash then converted to JPEGs. They are easily editable by anyone.

Screenshots:

I love that keyboard... the whole skin looks real nice.... interesting idea doing it all in flash then converting to jpegs... what are the benifits of that? I might have to play with flash a bit more

I just made the images in Flash as that's the tool I'm most comfortable drawing and designing with. It's a brilliant drawing package without all the animations tuff you can do. There were no real benefits of doing it this way.

I never really considered using flash just to simply draw, gotta play with it...

since your so proficient in flash, why no flash intergration with the skin? just curious, think it's real nice as is though....

I was thinking of doing this at some later date but makes the skinning process a lot more involved. I think the performace of RoadRunner might be affected aswell. For now though, I just wanted a quick, clean, simple, intuitive skinthat looked OEM(ish).

I might have a go at some point though.

Hi lloydy

Great skin, great installation, great effort! Thanks for the skin contribution, it's just what I'm looking for really.. only I'll be running on a widescreen 800 x 480! bugger, I'll have to see how it works.

What about the settings for windows to suite the skin?

Ta!

I also can confirm that RR bug on using the vol+/- on the video browser skin. So far it's been running great and I think this will be my main skin for a while now.

Really looking forward to you getting that utilities section worked out, especially having an easy way to get to network connections will be nice. Let me know if I can be of any help, really not a programmer but I test things out or do little skin tweaks.

I just changed the Windows Appearance to match the colours of the skin and made the toolbars etc larger. I dont have the actual skin colours (hex values) to hand at the moment (actually the orange colour is #FF6600 [255,102,000 decimal]from the top of my head). I will release the Windows theme I use with the next release of the skin if that helps.

I think this is one of the best skins I have seen and I plan to use it. Good work!
