I will do a clean reinstall whenever I order my drive, this is more of a "get used to having a CarPC" again with this small 160GB that I have in it now. I do have the latest version. I have set the COM port in RR both in the config, and within the GPS section in RR. Both crash. And by crash, "Windows encountered a problem..." The PC is currently in the car, I may go get it shortly if it isn't raining to post the debug.

Correct. I beleive no net.kml.ini has been included in the void package.

yes i do, i forgot the program name. i'll edit this post when i figure it out, check back later.

edit: google 'ge cacher', i think that's what i used. it has parameters for upper left corner, then the width and the length of the total area you want to cache. also has a parameter for altitude so you can see how high up you want to get, and the width and length of each box u make. you'll have to play with the parameters a bit before you get the altitude to match each step's box size, but you can watch it as it goes along to verify.

a few pieces of advice:
-make sure ur cache level is set to 2000mb in GE which is the max if u want the map as much as you want.
-MAKE SURE that when you copy it over to the carputer you have it set to 2000mb as well, otherwise when you copy the cache file over itll basically wipe out part of the file and the index and ull have to do it over
-copy over your ge cache AND the index file, the cache file is useless without its index and ull have to start over if u lose it.
-if you have multiple areas you would like to cache, do it in one run of GE (you can still use the cacher multiple times, but leave GE open) and monitor your cache file to ensure its not exceeding 2000mb or you will wipe out your initial cached area. i found that if you exit in between sometimes, the areas u had before disappear from the index file even though the cache file size still shows as the same. you may also want to just backup the cache and the index file incrementally on the way to be safe in case it gets messed up along the way.
-make sure in your carpc you have run GE at least once with internet access before you load in your cache file or it wont work.

hope all this helps

Thanks to those who've been helping out answering questions!

Now it seems to be working.

@LS: your installation package either does not contain a net.kml.ini file or contains an empty version of the file. Without this ini, the net.kml generated to feed the coordinates to GE is empty. I downloaded the above package, unzipped all the contents into my main RR path, overwriting the current net.kml and net.kml.ini and now it seems to be working (i will test with actual gps tomorrow, but the error is gone). just something you may want to address in your next build.

Void doesn't come with the net.kml or net.skm.ini because those files get created by the plugin itself. If you delete them and launch RR, it will recreate them. Sometimes, for no reason i know of, the kml file and or ini file gets screwed up by RR and RREarth wont work right till u delete them and restart it.

xport may just not like your system or gps device or both. I cant run xport on my main machine either because it causes IG4 (but not 3) to crash windows, but i can run it in the car (when i had a carputer). It may seem to work fine with splitting the ports, until u try to connect something to both ports. Unfortunately there isnt another free com port splitter that i know of.
I suggest setting up RR without xport and test to make sure its not RR causing the crash or xport causing it. I have rarely, if ever seen RR actually cause windows to crash.
also, turn debugin on in RR via RRConfig and post your debug.txt file.
also, just curious, your not running a stripped down version of windows by any chance?

Will there be a daytime skin release for void 3.X or is that a "dead" issue?

While the dark skin is very pleasing visually, it's just too dark for the daylight and sometimes is completely overpowered by the light. Window tint is not legal around here (wouldn't want it anyways) and there's no other way to lower the ambient light in the cabin. The overall black theme just suppresses too much of the backlight and the result is poor visability on a regular touchscreen LCD. Throw in the natural reflective qualities of the touchscreen overlay and things get worse still.

I know you don't like the "washed out" appearance of a light skin with black lettering, but it sure would be useful in the day where the black skin often become dim or useless due to ambiant light conditions.

It's the main feature I miss from 2.02.........

Cheers

its not dead, there still will be a day version coming. Time just hasnt been as nice to me as in the past. Lately im finding a hard time to even sit in front of my home pc cause im allways at work.

ratings will be supported again in an update.
as for the volume slider, i dont see that being changed, its on every single screen in the skin. I do think there is something i could do to remove the 5 star button but not the purpose of having it. There are 5 dots on the top that are used to set any song playing to a specific rating as well as display its current rating. I could change it so clicking any dot or star will load the playlist for that rating, and click and hold to set a rating. That way i can remove the 5star button and replace it with something else. Or make it custom like the Navi and BBAA buttons and u can choose what u want it to do.

you are having direct X errors. Your system either has poor support for direct x via a embeded video card, bad drivers, old DX install, RR not setup properly for GDI+ mode or similar. If you turn on debug mode in RRConfig, it will generate a debug.txt file. Run RR and im pretty sure you will see an error that says, error active x init DX error or something very similar.
Im working on the skin now to have it setup so u can choose between using ilist or standard non direct X powered lists, for those with direct X issues.

actually i tried deleting the files and restarting RR several times. it does not work because the files that get regenerated just come up empty. the only way that i could get it working was by downloading the above package, and believe me, i tried every uninstall/reinstall combo possible on two different systems with the exact same results.

if it wasnt the net.kml and net.kml.ini files that were missing, maybe the dll that generated them got corrupted. but whatever the reason is, they definitely kept coming up empty until i installed the rrearth package. maybe someone can test by deleting their kml and ini files and seeing what happens?

as for the volume slider, i dont see that being changed, its on every single screen in the skin.

I wasn't implying to get rid of the slider volume control. I was just saying that it's hard to get the volume all the way down by using the slider control. It's great that the ratings plug-in will be supported again. Did you give any thought to the modified ratings plug-in that I suggested in an earlier post? As for holding the button down, that might get messy when driving. I can see not holding the button down long enough and accidentally rating a song or the other way around. If the rating plug-in is going to be supported again, than the button should stay where it is. Thanks again.

@Twinsen, there were some posts many, many pages ago about deleting some dll that pulled up your location for display on the main screen. it was causing some people to experience crashes, i believe. i really dont know exactly what dll or file it is, but basically removing it may get rid of the call to display your location on the main screen and hence get rid of your crash. it is a POSSIBILITY, and i could be COMPLETELY off, but its worth a shot since ur at a dead end. also, make sure ur running the latest void downloaded off the front page along with the patch.

edit: read somewhere around this area: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/rr-s...ll#post1155571 (both before and after) about ziplocator.dll and see if that provides any insight. i never had the issue so i never paid much attention.

?!?!? All this work and you don't have a carputer? I hope its just a choice (or time?) issue, not financial one!

Thanks for all your hard work and answering everyones (including my) questions no matter how many times they have been answered or how dumb they turn out to be!

Also, in case this ziplocater solves my issue and I get a fully working GPS, how do I enable the Flash Heading image? I DO have the latest Flash installed, and on some of my re-installs of RR/Void, it would show, then others, like now, it doesn't show. Any ideas on this?

Welp! Deleting the ziplocater.dll did it! Finally! Now on to my most recent addition to issues! The Flash Heading indicator. Any ideas on what could disable this? Again, I do have the latest video drivers, flash, direct X, the whole shabangabang. Sometimes it would show up, and now it won't at all.

i know when i had 3.0, i turned the flash compass off once and it wouldnt turn back on after that. are you running the newest version with the patch? if you are unsure, do one last clean install, make sure u delete the skin inside the skins folder AND the lstools folder in the road runner directory. then install 3.2 and the patch off the main page (there has been more than one version of 3.2 on the main page, so redownload it along with the patch) no need to uninstall and reinstall rr though. make sure u redelete the ziplocator file. if it was a flash issue u would get a white box. my guess is that the compass got turned off and there is a bug in turning it back on. look through the ini files (rr.ini and exectbl) to see if there is a parameter for the compass. LS will need to provide more input here.
