I am getting crashes with RR though but only if I try to restart it after I shut it off. Is there a way to turn ilists off? I think it may be the root of my problems.

You can comment the ilist line out of the skin in the "alt" folder and void won't use ilists.

They work fine with mine though.............

My system is much slower than yours (via sp13000), and regardless of it is really the cause of the crashes or not it bogs my system down, the list is very choppy.

Thanks for the info.

What do you mean by "comment" it out? Syntax wise what should I write?

use "/" at the beginning of the line in the skin file. For example:

, IL, LIST, SelImg, UnselImg, EndImg, LimitMode, Drag, MaxSpeed

Becomes:

/, IL, LIST, SelImg, UnselImg, EndImg, LimitMode, Drag, MaxSpeed

At least, it worked for me when I was chasing down a few issues I had with ilists............

Make sure you do it in each of the skins in the ALT folder. Some don't have ilists at all though. You only really need to do the skins you use, but I did them all when I was chasing stuff down.

Better safe than sorry..........

Anyway, to fix your problem, delete ziplocate.dll from RR folder and you're done.

well, thought I knew what I was doing, but it seems skinning is still just a bit out of my grasp yet.........

Thought I'd have a try at making a day skin for void.

Opened up the skin folder, opened all the png's in photoshop CS. Came up with a quick and dirty idea to see how a day skin might look by setting up an action to invert and save all the images. Wouldn't be perfect, all the colors besides the blacks would be messed up, but a couple casual hours of PS could fix that up. About 5 mins of work and I had all the images inverted. That should get me a mostly light skin and I could massage the rest from there right?

Wrong!

Copied the original "Void" folder, renamed it "void day" and replaced (overwrote) all the dark png's with my inverted images. Defined that as my day skin in rrconfig, restarted, and..............

It used all the dark images from the original dark skin anyways. Missed something somewhere.

Back to the drawing board..............I desperately need a light skin with summer approaching and i can't give up my "Void"....................

I think you hit the snag when you changed the folder name to "Void day". All the files and code in the skin point at the original "void" folder. You need to go change all the target paths throughout the skin code ..... If it were easy I think LS would have done it already. I'm with you though, I can't see crap during the day time (colorado sun is out all the time and strong! ... and i love it).

You're probably right. Like I said, it was a quick and dirty attempt.

Hi smoke. I tried to pm you, but your box is full.

So, here goes:

Do you still have the Lsxcolors.txt file you posted a while ago that changed the font colors from white to black?

Or was is a redone menu.skin file? I can't recall, although a modified menu.skin makes more sense.......

I've searched the thread and can't find it. I'd like to fool around with it to see if it can be used in a day version of the skin.

I'm working on a little something for myself until you can find time to try a day version and that would save me alot of time. I could go in a edit all the files to black instead of white, but that would take quite a while. And if you've already done the work, well.......

Basically, I've done a little photoshop work and (for the most part) inverted the PNG files (good ol' Ctrl+I). It does indeed look "washed out", But, at least it's a starting point. I'm still massaging the images for a bit better contrast and eye appeal. (The unflattened PS files would make it so much easier though, HINT HINT!)

Of course, I will NOT release anything that even resembles a modified void file. Nothing will happen (publicly) without your say so with regards to modifying your work.

Feel free to PM me if you don't mind sending me the file and/or PSD's but would rather not release them to the general public.

Cheers

BJ

*edit*

Here's a couple quick screen caps of the work in progress. Keep in mind, I've only got about 10mins of work into this so far. It's pretty weak right now, but it's only the beginning of editing.................long way to go before it is nice enough for use.

By the way, Loving the color picker and themes. Great feature, esspecially since my dash lighting is green.

(ignore the music, just downloaded some quick stuff for testing purposes )

One Last note for LS:

If you want me to stop mucking around withthe skin and posting stuff like this, just say so and it's done. I'll remove the screen caps above as well if you wish.

Cheers

Like I said everything loads up (IG3 that little arrow thing that shortcuts) but for some reason it loads up out side of RR. Im sure there is some stupid setting that I am missing as usual.

Thanks,

only thing i can think of that would prevent RR from embeding the app is if the window name of the app is missing. Check RRConfig under GPS settings you should see and area for putting in the window name for IG witch is iGuidance.
also, try adding IGNATIVE=True to your rr.ini file

i think he just didnt actually have the new skin loaded. None of the code in the skin uses hard coded paths to anything, so you can name the skin folder anything you want.

i dont mind u or anyone posting anything.

the lsxcolors.txt file is in the skins folder. The one i had was just modified to use black text instead of the white. The colors are in RGB format so its pretty easy to change.
The only problem and the reason i havent used this method for the dayskin yet is there are certain sections of text that share a color value in that file that need to be broken up into two groups because they need a different color. Breaking it up requires a lot of hand editing of the .skin files and no search and replace functions will work. So unfortunately nothing short of creating all new graphics will work, but i have not abandoned the dayskin, it will come.

There will be an update posted this weekend.

The major changes will be new option screens using custom list and the ability to turn ilist on/off on the fly from inside the settings. Ilist will be off by default, so youll have to turn them on if u want to use them.
A few small adjustments to things here and there, up/down arrows for all list are back to accommodate those who turn ilist off. A few other things i cant quite remember right now.

I know some are expecting specific features i agreed to add, like a wifi manager and some other things. These are still planned, just not for this update.
This update should of went out weeks ago, as its been done for about that long. But time is very, very short on my end these days as u can probably tell by the significant reduction of me posting on the forums. But im hoping this changes soon.

as usual, sunday is when the syrup touches the pancakes.

more later.

Droollllll.....................

No big about the lack of postings, life has to be taken care of first. Bills need to be paid, kids have to be played with, homework needs to be done. Considering you already have considerable (excessive?) time invested in this project, I think you've got a fair bit of "credit" built up with the thread followers/users.........

As you can see by the screen caps, I got the skin working with the modified png's. There was quite alot messed up in my RR and Void as I was using the install I hack at and modify. The skin files were the last straw and the proggy crashed. A wipe and reinstall started everything off fresh and working again (at least until I muck it up again ).

Thanks, I just know some guys are sensitive about thier work being modified. Just putting forth the consideration for you....

I've already started with the color modification to the files. Just thought it might have saved a few keystrokes if you still had it lying around. No prob, work continues.....

Thanks for the update on the day skin, I'm just looking to create a "workable" solution until you have an official release. I know there's others lamenting the loss of the day option also. While the graphics and style of void (as it stands) is very asthetically pleasing, it's just too dark for daytime use in bright sun. My monitor is mounted fairly low and in the shaded part of the car and it's still overpowered by ambient light at certain times of the day. The vast expanses of black look great, but cut down the light transmitted by the CCFL just a bit too much. Just not enough nits get through to be usable in anything other than shade......

I figure a "not quite as pleasing" day skin I can see and use is better than a good looking skin you can't see! (hmm, is it still "good looking" if you can't see it?)

I'll take the 80-90% solution for now as opposed to nothing at all!

It works fantastically for night time as is though.

Request for a feature additions/modifications:
*dambit, slipped my mind while typing! It'll come back in a minute...*

Aha! I remember!

GPS:

On the GPS option to open full screen, there's a littel script that runs and opens a transparent audio control box. While this is nice and it is movable, it always opens in the same place after closing/reopening. Would it be possible to have void remember where the box was last moved to when re opening the gps? I'm not a fan of the default location, and it's kind of a PO to have to move it each time I open GPS. Not a big deal, just an annoyance on my part.

Is it also possible to release a "modified" script that opens the gps fullscreen (no controls, gps only) and only a simple "exit fullscreen" button? I don't need volume and track control on-screen as I have steering wheel controls and use cdrskull's joypad 3.1 program to give me "hard buttons" for audio/RR control. This would leave a nice, clean, big gps screen. And as we all know, one a 7 inch monitor, you can always use more real estate for the gps screen!

Audio Browser:

I see that by clicking on the blank "bar" below the ilist, you can toggle between album art and ilists. Great feature! But, would it be possible to add a third state to give a blank box (ie: album art and ilists not displayed)?
The reason I ask is so that the visualization can be clearly displayed. Most of the winamp visuals are centered in the screen, and this is right where the album art is displayed. It would be nice to just let the visuals play while listening to the music without the album art or ilist in the way.

It would also be nice if the visuals were constained to the size of the browsing box, but I think that would be more difficult as the visuals would have to be resized and I don't think it would be worth the coding trouble. Seems to me you'd have to close the vis, then re-open and resize/embed to the box. Going back to any other screen or state would require a reverse of this sequence. Just seems awkward for a minimal gain. I may be wrong, never fooled with it that much.......

As always, great work LS, can't wait to see the update.......
