status update:
Here is the definitive list of things to do before 3.0 is ready.
png conversion is about
98% done
list of files left to be converted
some files need additional work other than being converted, but very minor.
It seems like a long list, but also remember there are
208 .skin files (by far the largest of any skin) that had to be updated and converted for this update.
Code tweaks are about
99% done
code complete is very close, a few outstanding items that i want to add or look into are POI NAV and GAS NAV, im not sure about gas nav, i tihnk it only works with gps gas and not the native gas plugin in which case it wont be added unless the native gas features have the lat&log of the stations available as labels or vars. Some other items i cant really think of right now, but nothing that is super major or that will take a long time.
So with that said, overall status i would say is about
97% done.
This is for the
night version of the skin!
The
day version of the skin will only require the png conversion but should go a little bit faster as i dont have to update the .skin files just replace the .jpg's with png's. This will take aprox 2-3 weeks give or take a week since the only avail time to work on the skin is on the weekends.
The night version will be released before the day version. If i dont do it like that, its too tempting to add more features till the day version is done, thus pushing back the release.
Down the road:
Ive been toying with an idea to have 0day beta updates, where anytime i make any changes to the skin, ill upload them to a beta site where anyone whos brave enough, can grab and test out. But this would strictly be for beta versions only and support for them will be minimal. Im not sure though, as i doubt i have enough extra free time to manage open betas so it may end up being a closed beta with access only to a few select people at any time. Something like, if you want access to early betas you will have to report bugs you find. If you dont report any you will be removed from the list and someone else will take your place. That sounds fair. When 3 cycles of groups fail to report any bugs ill assume its bug free

Then release that as an update. So if this does happen, those that want in should be people who really want to test and find bugs, otherwise please dont sign up as you'll just make things take longer for everyone else.
