Automatic Installer

Well.... When you and I chatted, I was looking to do a regular installer program. That was pretty easy to set up, BUT required doing it from scratch each time there was an update to the skin. With a standard installer, it is meant for first time installs. When more files are added or altered, I couldn't just say "include these new files too!".
Thus, the installer that I wound up doing. is a custom VBScript. I can control a bit more going this route. I can check for previous installs, as well as what actually was installed with the Blue Devil skin. For instance if it was 2 weeks ago, then the Image Viewer needs to be included with the install, as well as the scripts for the new Road Runner Beta and iGuidance support. If you were upgrading from just the last update, the updater will only pick up from that point and install just what is needed.
As a precautionary measure, the VBScript installer will warn you not to overwrite the skin and image files, just in case you have changed them. HOWEVER, as mentioned in the READ ME NOW.txt file, if you have made any changes, it is HIGHLY recommended that you backup the skin folder, as to not overwrite any changes that you have made to the skins or images.
As this skin has grown so much more that I imagined, it can be difficult, as many people have mentioned in this thread, and PM messages to update it to the latest version easily.
The bottom line:
If this is the first time the skin is installed, it will take care of everything, including registering the dll's and such totally automatically.
If the skin exists, it will install all the helper files, and give the option NOT to overwrite files that may have been altered, and letting you choose what individual skin files and images to copy over.
Again:
If you have the skin already installed, and have made changes, BACK UP THE BLUE DEVIL SKIN TO ANOTHER LOCATION BEFORE USING THE INSTALLER!
The Latest update, With the installer, is available in the first post 11/04/06 06:25AM Ver 1.7

I would define "changes" to the skin... or not... no idea.. but like for myself i am unsure whether i need to back up, i didnt make any changes to mine, but should i backup? i know backup==hot stuff , but that takes a whole 3 seconds outta my life. im just playing if no one was able to understand...
backupin=life safer.
so read the big red text if someone missed it somehow

ll the script automatically overwrite read-only files? I have a couple read-only files so I don't accidently overwrite them.

This is the best skin Ive seen. Keep up the great work. I'm having a smple problem and have already read thru your instructions on this. Its about the main logo. After installing your skin I cannot even get your default mitsubishi logo to appear. I tried downloading my car's logo and overwriting your original main_logo.png file and still nothing. Is there a basic setting im missing?
Thanks in Advance

"Changes", are just that. If you have changed, say the Menu skin, to add code say to the GPS button, to load something special, it will be overwritten if you let it. Same goes for any changes to the Main menu IMAGES, moving buttons around ect.
If anyone has made any changes, the best thing to do, is to rename the Blue Devil folder. Then run the installer, and let it install everything. Then just copy over whatever images or individual skin files that you have altered.
I put this together, as I have had a lot of comments on not knowing what to update, and having to copy all the files over manually each and every time. This was to try to make it MUCH easier, when the updates are released. It also allows the skin to work "out of the box", meaning the DLL"s are registerd automatically, so when you install the skin, the Screen Lock utility works as soon as the skin is loaded, without having to deal with registering the Dll's ect.

Hehehe Glad you found it, as I was about to say check the help file, as it explains in great detail how to get the clock logo set up

I got a script error, permission denied, but I am guessing that is because I have read only files in the folder. So,I renamed my current BlueDevil folder so that the installer did not see a previous install and it worked fine. THEN, I install on top of that last install and all went well. Good work.

One thing I really wish we had was Sling Player integration. I would love to have the ability to play my Tivo on the carpc over my phone's connection, inside RR.
Thanks in advance!
hey Joey, you got a link for sling player?? sounds interested...

There's the direct link to the player it self. I have yet to get a slingbox, still debating getting one. Would be a great addition to the carpc. Some people argue its either too much or isn't worth it, but people also argue that carpc's are useless. I have used my friend's slingplayer on his t-mobile MDA and it works great with his edge connection.

It worked great. i was talking with John, so he already knew. but for those who needed another voice of confidence it works great.
We are working on a special feature for the weather screen to make it look even better and more functional it is top secret for now, but will soon be released.
