Another Update
Ok, Guino has been working hard on the new GDI / Transparency stuff, and its getting really close! Rignt now the only thing that is not working as far as I can tell is that the indicators are not showing their "ON" state correctly. I did the 3 audio menu's (Browser, playlist, Full Scrren Player) with transparent backgrounds and it is starting to look really good.
Here are a few examples:
A Multicolor Background:
A Photo in the Background:

A Solid Background Color:

You will be able to just dump all the pictures & backgrounds into a folder, and browse them in the skin to select and apply one of them.

Will there be a way to automatically control a color change for a night skin?

The V1 integration request was made by me a while ago. But I never used your initial skin for it since you didn't put it in DigitalFX Black (only blue). At least I don't remember seeing it. What questions do you have?

I thought it was you from thinking about it, but I wasn't sure tombuc has a Valentine1 and I don't' have the code for the button to call the skin up and all any longer! I was hoping that you still did. As for the blue version being the only one having that skin, if all goes well, with the above mentioned transparent stuff, this will be a thing of the past. You can make anything in the skin whatever color or background you want. It's getting real close! Just a few small issues to work out are all that's left.

Damn, I knew this would come back to me. I accidentaly overwrote that version with a newer version of DigitalFX (since it was only in the blue skin and I don't use the blue skin). Sorry.... Also, I know this doesn't help much but I have a newer version of the V1 Software I was using. It fixed a few bugs that I noticed after long term use of the software (it is always on when I am in the car). I usually have it set up in "pop up" mode (i.e. only show when there is an alert) w/IG open. I have IG set up in 3D mode with the zoom set so the V1 display will pop up above the horizon, but it doesn't block any of the maps or buttons.
An idea for a V1 skin if you have time (yeah right.....) is to have the V1 embedded in one of the main menus. Of course real estate is tight on those screens so something would have to go, but it would be neat to see. Anyway, keep up the good work. BTW, will the transparency update you are doing also apply to the text color? I would like to change the text color from white to amber (to match my interior) but I have been waiting until your update is done.

No problem, I will figure out the code here again.
As for the text color, unfortunately that will not be part of the next release, sorry. When I did the skin originally, all of the text and such is in the PSD's.
Possibly, way down the road, I may make another skin where all the text is done in the actual skin files, and have an option in the skin itself to change the text color. This is a long ways away though, so don't look for this anytime soon.

John, this was the first time, that BD/D FX wasn't on the first page under RR skins, hard to believe.
Well, the sign of a good programmer/developer, is little or no phone calls..

Hahaha! Yea, I thought it was GONE! I went to post this message, and had a brief panic, as I didn't see it listed!
Well that has been for good reason! The code in the Road Runner Beta is working perfectly! There were a few hurdles to overcome in the past weeks as to layer order, on and off images showing through and such. Working with Guino, as Liquid Smoke and DahliaLmama has, it seems to be working perfectly! THANK YOU GUINO!
Now it is just a matter of me tweaking the 80 PSD's (Transparency levels and such have to be altered on every button for the on state, and the off state, as well as the top bar, text area's ect ect). But I am happy to report it is coming along! I so far have 10 of the skins completed. It's taking about 5 minutes per skin as of now. I will work on it over the next few days, then save all the images out as PNG's instead of the JPG's.
As a side effect of the new layers and how they are being done, all of the buttons on the skin will now highlite on mouse over. Basically meaning that you can use a wheel, arrow keys or other means to navigate the buttons. In the photo below the mouse is hovering over the "Music" button. There will also be a down state to the buttons, so you will get a little visual feedback when a button is pressed as well.
This is a screen capture of the main menu, pointing to a "Brushed Metal Style" background, as the background of the skin.
This is just SOOOoooo sweet! Ability to change the color and look of the skin with just a single click! WooHoo!
Here is another one using a very nice sunset image:
The next step is just to make a new button in the settings screen to allow you to browse and pick whatever color or background image you want for the skin.

John - I heard a rumor that you like a challenge
What I think would be cool, is to have the back ground image change every x period of time (every day, every boot, or something)
But then, I'm not the programmer, so easy for me to say

Sweet, John.. As much as I love the blue skin, it's going to be a lot of fun to easily change it around.

Install it manually. The folder you need to copy over to the RR skins folder is in the DFX archive under Roadrunner>skins>DigitaFX (color).
It is definitely worth the effort.
