I too am now (since upgrading to 2.0) seeing a delay when starting RR with the DFX skin loaded. It is always a 19 second delay...for example, I start RR, which loads DFX, I have a stationary logo, the time and the compass displayed. The time on the clock freezes as soon as it's displayed. Then 19 seconds later, it starts updating the time.
During this 19-sec delay, I get no response at all from the desktop...but the sound (MP3 or XM via line-in) keeps playing.
I will try changing the logo to one with the flash compass and see if anything changes. If not, are there any other ideas?
A few other things...I don't have a real display yet. I am using a laptop running RDP over a crossover ethernet cable. Don't know if this has any effect. I also have a Buffalo wireless LAN card and WZC is running.
I did the downgrade to flash 8.0 from 9.0c.
I am using Xport to send the GPS data from COM4 to 5 (iG), 6 (DFX) and com10 (for when I run Netstumbler...usually not running).
I have not done any real system optimizations yet...other than run Bootvis to defrag the startup progs. I have not disabled any system services yet.
should Direct Sound be modified at all? I don't have the option to modify the hardware acceleration on the video...it's just not there in the properties dialog.
EDIT: Forgot to mention...If I go back to the stock skin that comes with RR, there is no delay.

It REALLY seems like a flash problem to me, especially with the delays, the 100% CPU usage ect.
Try this:
Browse to this folder:
C:\Program Files\Road Runner\skins\DigitalFX 2.0\Menus\DigitalClock
(Substitute the path where you have RR installed of course)
Copy ALL of the files from that folder to the root digitalFX skin folder. (Say yes when it asks to overwrite files) This is just the manual way of setting the menu layout and logo's to be totally non flash. You will not overwrite anything on a permanent basis, as the other menu's to copy over are in the other menu folders and copied out by scripts on demand.
Try that, and load RR and PLEASE let me know what happens, I want to find out if the problem is flash, and if it's not, I need to find out what else it could be.
Also, Is anyone else having a problem with 100% CPU usage, or taking 19 seconds to start RR with this skin, PLEASE post as many details as possible!
As we all know everyone's computer is different in some way or another. Just like the Download link was not available to Bump, it is working here, and had one post that someone else also was having no issues getting to the download. So sometimes, it can be the simplest things on an individual computer, and not always a problem for everyone. Thats the hard ones to try to figure out for sure!

It had to be my DNS servers.
I used my proxy account and got it.
I downloaded from both ( FTP & carpcnet ). Because I though it was the wrong file.

John the "clock calender " is a CPU hog.
my laptop is a 2 Gig cpu and it uses 80 % of my CPU. WOW
in the " utilites " . What do you need to have to get the " calendar" to work?

To get the calendar to work, is pretty simple, download rainlender, and then design a skin for it to match the DigitalFX skin
Hahhaahhahh
its a future project, as it is not complete yet, Voice memo also is still inactive.
On another note:
I Im'd and had a chat with Liquid Smoke tonight. I asked him to DL the latest version of the skin, and test it out. He had no issues to report about load times, screen switching times etc. He did find a few small things I need to fix, but all seemed to load fast and work normally for him.
I am certainly not saying that some of you are not having problems, but it seems to be machine specific, and still am a firm believer that is is a Flash problem. This has been a problem for some people since day 1 with Road Runner. I had the same problem on my last CarPC, and it was a pain in the *** to figure it out and finally get it cleared up. I don't remember what all I did back then, but if you do a search on the forums for Flash or look in the FAQ you will find tons and tons of info and posts about it!

I work on PCs constantly that have funky flash problems. I can't put my finger on them, but fixing flash that usually doesn't even look broke will fix a lot of issues that are mostly speed/resources related. The easiest thing to try for this hobby is removing any flash related stuff from add/remove. Then go to INTERNET EXPLORER, NOT firefox, and install flash from flash.com.
Give it a go, you might be surprised!
Sometimes you have to remove the flash entries under 'manage add-ons' as well. (before reinstalling)
I had no issues with my install this evening, BTW.

I got a Ford logo for you since you specifically requested it, but that sacrilege you call a Cadillac logo has got to GO!

Thanks for the logo's! They will be in the next release.
Speaking of Logo's..... Now that Road Runner supports High Resolution, High Color Transparencies (PNG FIles) I figured it was time to update the XM logo's!
I ran across these some time ago, and never could use them till now. I have all of the logo's in the same Hi-Res glory as this sample:
I am having to remove the background color from each image, to make them transparent, and am about halfway through.
Certainly just a LITTLE bit better than the ones we are using now wouldn't you say?

(Before someone asks, no, I do not have any hi-resolution Sirius Logo's, sorrry)

Yes, fastmode=-1 is in there.
Using the road runner.exe from your install.exe. The file date from that is 3/1/2007. I thought your installer updated road runner.exe? I did on my desktop?
I'll try a manual update of Road Runner.
Edit: ok, the manual update didn't work. I know get a startup error from Road Runner - "c:\documents and settings\administrator\desktop\SKINS\Alpine\ does not contain a valid skin"
I go into rrconfig and check the skin path - change to even the default bmv2 and still get the error.
I have never had an Alpine skin. Never stored my skins in the above path. I did a seach of all ini files for the word Alpine and nothing.
Keep in mind that my Road Runner was functioning fine with the Digital FX Blue until this upgrade. Running the new installer is the only change made! (I swear. Trust me, I run an IT department, I know users claim this all the time)

03/01/2007?!?! Is that the one that I included with the installer???? I hope not, or this is as much my fault! You need the 04/11/07 RR Located HERE
Give that a try and see if that fixes the problem.. (Fingers crossed)
EDIT: After a momentary panic attack, I checked the install file, and the version packaged is the 4/11/07 version. I am not sure how you still have the 03/01/07 version if you copied that one from the desktop that the installer put there, to your RR folder.

That is the one that was installed on my laptop via your installer. On my desktop, it worked fine. But regardless, a manual update did not solve it.

Using 2.1 and iG 3.0, I am still having these problems on a desktop testbed:
In GPS, select Gas, exit gas, no GPS display but L and R columns of icons. Home works and, usually (not always) I can get GPS display again.
Or, In GPS, select Auto Config, no Auto Config panel and system locks up. I noted in an earlier post that this was a known problem. Is that still the case?
The reason I ask is that I had been modifying and testing the four vbs scripts to work with my install (E:\RoadRunner\Run\Skins\DigitalFX 2.0\etc) and I was able to get the Auto Config display with the first release of 2.0, but no longer.

I tried the steps as you laid them out and the first time after the change I started RR/DFX and got the 19 sec delay. I then exited and restarted RR/DFX 5 more times and never saw the delay.
The first time I was resuming from a hibernate...don't know if that matters.
I use hibernate just about every time...no shutdowns. But when I was seeing the 19 second delay regularly it was from exiting and restarting RR/DFX.
I am going to keep the setup I have now and see how it acts.
