This is my first skin for RR and it was built with simplicity, stability, and consistency in mind. It was loosely modeled from the OEM skins of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Chevy and GMC with the 'tabbed' menus on top. Graphics are much higher resolution than OEM though. Some of the newer skins for RR are really nice and have all sorts of neat effects but are hard to use while driving and need all sort of dependencies to install and make them work. This skin is 'old school' in its design as there is no flash, no crazy menu effects and NO B.S.! Its just fast, easy to use, and flexible in its design made to work 'out of the box'. To maximize its flexibility I have included the PSD files inside the skin directory. This will allow users to add menus, change menus, or change the color of the entire skin to match their interior lighting. Please keep in mind that this skin is designed to be slim for my embedded system and the way I use my carPC. It may or may not contain features you are looking for but again this is why I left it open source and included the PSD files. This skin also supports XP embedded or any XP install utilizing the EWF feature. It is the first skin I know of to support this.
PLEASE READ the _read_me_.txt file in the skin directory! It contains the release notes, instructions on how the skin works, and what needs to be done prior to launching the skin. If you refuse to read this and ask questions that are answered in the read me I will not answer them again. I have throughly tested the skin on my desktop and in the car and everything is working and very stable for me. If you notice any bugs or other unwanted behavior please let me know so I can fix them. If you have any suggestions on how this skin could be better please let me know. Skin was coded in RRskineditor and can be modified or opened in RRskineditor to see how everything is laid out.
Credit goes to Treetop as he did all the graphics on the burgundy color version. The PSD's are not included in this version which is why the skin is a record breaking 2 mb in size! That may be the smallest footprint for a RR skin yet.

UPDATE VERSION 2.0d RELEASED. This is an updated day version. The release notes contain the change log. As before, the PSD files are included in the archive. Please post if your testing and have tried it out, there is some new code in v2.0d. You DO NOT need to uninstall the first skin versions, in fact all 3 current releases can run side by side.
Yeah its supposed to be a folder. I just gave it the same glass effect as the toolbars, although it looks like a large bright spot. Im actually thinking about taking the folder icon out of the next release since you can toggle audio and browser modes just hitting the 'mp3' button. Glad to hear it is working good for you, stability is key for the carPC.
I think I am going to add an '=' key in one of the blank keys on the OSK. Was using the OSK to edit rr.ini and realized i really need the equals key!

Found the best spectrum analyzer EVER. Configurable for any color and infinate styles. Unzip vissatan.zip and drop the DLL into your winamp plugins folder. Here is a screener of it configured for my colors and running on top of my tab bar.

It is quite simple in design, Glad to hear that you are tearing into code and learning, thats how I coded this one, just looking at other skins code and tearing it up to see what works and what doesn't. I've got some plans and some new code in action for release v2. Im working on the video browsing a bit more and adding a slider to video player. I also want to finish some of the smaller menus like the shutdown screen you have pictured. Looks like its from CFX which, funny enough, is the skin I probably referred to most while learning the code structure. Also release 2 will have the code more organized in the .skin text files for those you like to edit via the trusty notepad.
Wonder how a white/bright high contrast day version graphics would look?

To change colors you need to edit the PSD files, if you have photoshop you can double click on the color overlay effect. Its quite simple as my PSD files are layed out very clean. I starting toying with the day version but i still love blk and grn 4ever

Sweet Treetop, thats looking good! Like the deep red / burgundy color. This is awesome. Take a good look at the layers in photoshop. All of the menu's are in that menu.PSD file. You just need to turn certain layers on/off then save as a jpeg. For instance on that home menu you have pictured you need to toggle this layer: side buttons
If you want to remove the volume indicator and song label around you can do this in rrskineditor.

Started playing again. Working up version 2.0 to be released with day theme and different colors. My new cingular 3125 with windows mobile 5.0 has been taking up too much of my home desktop time! Need to get back skinning. On another note my poor kingston 2.0 Gb flah drive went through the washing machine and the dryer. Was amazed to find that it still works after that. if you need any more help treetop let me know, I like that color scheme!
