Robbys E36 Skin Photoshop Question
Have had a good look through the skinning tutorials which give some good examples of using the RoadRunner skinning utility, the gap seems to be some basics in photoshop.
ALL I want to do is use the menu.skin (Im obvioursly using the originall MENU.psd) as a template and change the icon pictures. Have spent a while playing about with CS3/CS2 and be buggered if I can find a way of changing the picture icons (and replacing them with custom jpg images)
Appreciate any help on doing this
Thanks

Hey Johnessc...
I had some hard time with this also.. But i think i got it now unless there are easier ways.. I just began to learning PS as well... This is how I understand.... U need to have some decent grasp of how layers work... eye icon = hide/unhide...
If you wanna replace an icon.. you need to find the corresponding layer and delete it.. then copy and paste ur jpg over which will also sit on a new layer.... That's how i did it...
Other people are very skilled and experienced, perhaps they can guide with better instruction... I just learned how to play with layers recently.. So, i ain't no expert..
Good luck yo.

Thanks Bran
Do you paste only? is there not a properties menu that lets you select a jpg? i copy an image to the clipboard but dont get an option to paste into PS
Ive asked the same question in countless threads, but to no avail so far. A brief tutorial PS sticky is what we need
Thanks for the info, have a look @ the spiderskin as well its based on the e36, looks good so far

When you have the image on/in the clipboard, just right click over your image and it should allow you to paste.

load photoshop and open menu.psd and "yourfile".psd
select the icon layer you want to copy, click and drag it from "layer menu" of your file to the inside of the windows of menu.psd
In this way or the icon will be copied inside, you will only place it where you want

i use keyboard.. once it's in the clipboard... control v will paste ur image on the active psd as a layer.. i use control c for copying and control v for pasting... a lot... but, this layer thing is giving me some headache as well as some of them look very complicate.. easily over 30 layers....
oh.. also, i am playing with spider's mod as well... it's very nice indeed... ^^ Check out his post, he posted some nice tutorial on how to change colors and stuffs... It helped me understanding the layers as well..

Thanks Spider/Brand
Spider making that video tutorial was a good idea, thats one thing i think were lacking is guides to PS.
How did you normalise the icons so they match the layout? im assuming its a standard image that has some fancy magical setting done
i see youve added a pacman style icon and network icon on your skin spider, thats the sorta match im tryna get
Cheers

I hope to understand your question
you want to standardize the style of an icon you created with the other icons of the skin?
You do it this way:
open photoshop and load it menu.psd
Select an icon from the group icons
Once selected its layer looks at the bottom of the same window the button fx
click it!
you access to the menu of the effects
look at the right the button save in the effects windows, ckick the button "new style"
Sava as Icon Effects
Select your icon "flat"
From the window styles just saved on the premium, is the last on the list
The icon will be in line with the other (the last icon)
You can also select the whole group and apply the styles to the whole group, in one click you set all the layers of the group in the desired style

To learn of the settings you must select the layer
Open the menu FX
Look at the settings of each marked effect with the "eye" icon

starting to get the hang of it now, the only icons that dont have fx applied are the top indicators (phoco, bluetooth, wifi etc) they are all matching orange, any idea what setting were used to get them matched?
