If anyone wants a minimalistic skin then see the attached. 800x600 only.

It uses the original GARMIN logo as the show / hide OSK button, and the CLOSE / MINIMISE icons to exit back to RR. There are no additional buttons for music control etc, and the bar covering the hotkeys down the bottom of the screen is removed. This means none of the labels in the app are hidden by the new buttons, and it generally looks perfect.

These were made from the 11/9/08 release. Many thanks to Monkeyracer for this app. It has made Garmin a viable option for touchscreen users.

Trouble with overlay?

I am having problems right now. I follow the instructions as descibed in the special instruction section.

What I have done so far: I have made sure no typos, made sure the paths were right.
Skin I am using: DFX4
Version Of RR: It is a brand new download & install so I do believe it is the latest version.

I have attached all three files in TXT format.

Thank
Dan

Thank you for your files, what happens when you try to open GMPC?

Your settings look mostly right, in rr.ini you have:

Code:
[Extra's] GARMINPATH=C:\GarminMobilePC\Que.exe GARMINPATH=C:\GarminMobilePC\Que.exe

try changing it to only one line, and make GARMINPATH lowercase:

Code:
garminpath=C:\GarminMobilePC\Que.exe

in exectbl.ini you have the 5 lines correctly input:

Code:
"GMPC_OVERLAY","RUN;$SKINPATH$ElcosMenu.exe|GMPCOL.skin" "GMPCOSK","RUN;$SKINPATH$ElcosMenu.exe|GMPCOSK.skin" "X_OVERLAY","SENDMSG;ElcosMenu;Exit" "GMPC","LOAD;GMPC.skin" "RUNGMPC","RUN;$garminpath$;!CDP",GMPC.skin

But you might try to make SKINPATH lowercase as well:

Code:
"GMPC_OVERLAY","RUN;$skinpath$ElcosMenu.exe|GMPCOL.skin" "GMPCOSK","RUN;$skinpath$ElcosMenu.exe|GMPCOSK.skin" "X_OVERLAY","SENDMSG;ElcosMenu;Exit" "GMPC","LOAD;GMPC.skin" "RUNGMPC","RUN;$garminpath$;!CDP",GMPC.skin

and your main.skin has the button code changed correctly:

Code:
B07,556,220,185,83,"GMPC||RUNGMPC||GMPC_OVERLAY",@HOLDMAINBT6@ ...

Just make sure you have garminsendkey.exe and ElcosMenu.exe in the skin folder, as well as the three .skin files, and the corresponding .pngs (depending on your resolution 800x600 or 800x480) and it should work.

It might just be the GARMINPATH and SKINPATH case sensitivity. I may change the User Guide into a different font that's not small caps so it's easier to distinguish.

Let me know if that helps.

Hi, I successfully installed the skin in to elite lite, however I cant click the buttons on the garmin application. Currently, Garmin will load when I press the Navigation button. However, it prompts me to click agree or press Esc, which I cant do. Garmin will become unresponsive unless I end process to roadrunner. If I play around with garmin enough the blue windows bar at the top appears.

My setup is running on the second screen, which required me to use /POSX=1280 in GMPCOL.skin and GMPCOSK.skin for the skin to line up with garmin. Are these the only changes I need to make for it to work correctly, or are there more coord changes?

My primary screen is 1280x800, and second is 800x480 touch. Unfortunately, I cannot change the second monitor to primary due to driver restrictions.

Below are the Changes I made to the .skin files:

After looking at it some more, it looks like garmin is freezing up. The blue windows bar at the top of garmin will appear when i play around with it.

The software works without any problems outside of RR.

Thanks,

I haven't worked with dual screen set-ups, and I am wondering if that has anything to do with it.

There are three skin files that are included:

GMPCOL.skin, GPMCOSK.skin, GMPC.skin,

Add the position tags:
Code:
/POSX=1280 /POSY=000

to the GMPC.skin, and see if that solves anything.
I'm thinking it might be that rr wants gmpc to load at 0,0 instead of 1280,0 and when you press in that 800x480 area, nothing happens becuase the program is actually at 0,0 but hiding behind the what is displayed on the first screen. (Best Guess)

(BTW, what is typically on the first screen when you use GMPC? And how are you doing two screens? Seperate instances of RR?)

Why can't you make the other display a Primary display ?
What drivers are you using ?
How are you setting the Primary and secondary screens ?

I use two, sometimes three displays for various software builds and testing setups, and i've never had a problem. In fact when I was building RR, i used My lillput touch as a fourth display, set as primary, and it worked a treat.......

My laptop, which is for my test setup, is a Toshiba L30 (PSL30L) from asia. Toshiba doesnt recognize the model on their site, which makes drivers difficult to find. Anyway, there were problems making the screen primary and having powerstrip recognize the screen to change the resolution.

The chipset is an ATI 200m Express. Most of the 200M driver updates available do not match the hardware ID to install. I havent tried any driver tweaks, I just stuck with the basics since this is my temporary setup. Right now I am selecting extended desktop from windows display, and then changing the resolution of the monitor to 800x480 with powerstrip. If I clone the monitors and set the resolution, my touch screen software (Xenarc) doesnt work.

I added the /posx=1280 to all the .skin files with no luck.

After trying GarminRR included in the Havoc skin, it worked successfully. Thank you for the suggestions.

Off-topic, what video card are you using? are you using special software to configure and manipulate the displays?

Has anyone thought of tweaking the overlay so we can have a scrolling read-out of the track that is playing in RR as we are looking at the Garmin screen? I love that there are track function (fwd/rev skip, play/pause) buttons, but I have no idea what I'm listening to unless I recognize the song.

I was thinking of moving the command for the OSK to where the BACK button is on the overlay, and changing the image to INPUT or something like that. Then I would change the GARMIN RR button to the command to return to RR (the music screen if possible), with a scrolling track name/artist name/track length in the button area.

Would this be possible?

Never tweaked an overlay before, been awhile since I jacked with skin editor too!
