I don't know anything about editing the overlay but if it could be done, it would be pretty cool. I listen to XM a lot and would like to have the channel info and artist/song shown when it changes.
BTW, love this overlay! Great work!

I have interesting conceprual idea about Sound controll for GPS part... let me see if i can do that in one program if so will post the source code...
idea to have one button that would popup if you click it and will show the audio controls in full.... otherwise you just see the playing song. I think that would save the soace on screen yet will deliver neeed functionality.
PS: If some one would do it before me i would be even happer (Yes, I'm lazy) also if some one thinks that idea not to good then let me know so i wouldnt botter to try since im workong on my other 2 projcets

I was thinking of moving the command for the OSK to where the BACK button is on the overlay, and changing the image to INPUT or something like that. Then I would change the GARMIN RR button to the command to return to RR (the music screen if possible), with a scrolling track name/artist name/track length in the button area.
Would this be possible?
Never tweaked an overlay before, been awhile since I jacked with skin editor too!
Unfortunately this is not possible due to the way the overlay works. In fact, text labels don't show correctly on the overlay (refer to that thread for more info) and scrolling is not possible. I would have loved that functionality too, but that is the limitation we have.

Thanks, and of course thanks to those that have helped with the overlay.

This can be fairly easy without needing to write any kind of program, you can create a third overlay without the controls (and a static label for song title if you want.)
I prefer to have the song controls on EVERY screen of RR because if I need to quickly pause a song, or easily go to the next track, I want to be able to do it without too much distraction from the road, and personally, I think it adds an unnecessary step (two buttons to pause the song rather than just one) just for the benefit of aesthetics. I'm a form follows function kind of designer, because that makes the most sense to me.
The great thing about having a CarPC is being able to make it your own, and customize to your liking though, so if you want it that way, go for it. If you do finish it, I'm sure there is someone else that might be interested in it, so feel free to post the files on this thread.

i bpersonally feel like the only way to easyly controll sound is hard wired buttons, so i can feel the touch and sense with my fingers... with touch screen you have to look, with buttons you can remember.. buttons are easy to add to car pc but need bezze customization for every model

I agree. You can't beat physical buttons for no-look audio control.
one problem I am having is that when i use my physical buttons (using CDRskull's gamepad app) the focus is taken away from Garmin and handed back to RR, so i jsut get a grey background. If i touch in the area where garmin was then the app comes back into focus.
Any ideas?

Just to make avail for others BMW E36 (Robby BMW) skin users, I did some adaptations.

After I changed these files on my laptop running vista, everything ran ok. Now I tryed to install into my carpc running xp and after about 15 sec or so running GMPC the elcosmenu script closes itself.
Would you have some advice regarding this problem?
Im using BMW E36 skin and running latest rr version.
Attached follow my config files.
Ive already used the same files MR provided but still the same.
Thanks,

I did manage to create a new skin and customize it to add the song and navigation buttons. The only limitation is that the screen must use a screen resolution of 800x600 or larger.
I'm still putting some finishing touches on my skin and the beta should be available soon.

Looking at the Garmin Hacking thread I wonder if you could make the Garmin border images transparent and just build the overlay to match your skin? You would have to modify the rest of the Garmin images to match your skin though.

I have problems with ElCamino's Overlay Plugin although using latest version 1.25 on my Intel D201GLY.
I get this violett vertical bar and RR screen is gone. Anybody else? Must have to do with gfx settings

I am having heaps of problems with the overlay being a system hog and eventually crashing on my PC.
I am ditching the overlay and going back to a USB keyboard. Garmin is by far the best GPS app I have had in the car, so i can tolerate having a small USB keyboard to use it

**Open the rr.ini file in Road Runner's root folder and ensure Fastmode=-1 is in there. If not add it, if its another value, change it to -1
Post a screen shot..
