If so, put the comment there.
Or create some sort of reference number, and then use an external comment sheet that places comments back in after the fact?
yah, I've been lazzy. I have ideas on what needs to be done. I was just going to add the comments as objects then you could place them before or after a regular object.
I dont think you can place comments on the same line as objects. I think they need to be on there own line. That would be a question for guino. The skins ive seen have them before the object parameters on there own line.
Anyways, Now that I have two 21 inch monitors connected to my pc it should be easier to program
In my previous post i was going to say just add the / to the objects.txt file and it would then be seen as an object. But the skineditor ignores all / except if /discardable. i just need to get some time to work on it.
I did do a little work on it a month ago but got sidetracked, so im not sure what i was messing with last month I think it had to do with objects using names to describe them. Like BMusic instead of B01. Since BMusic does not match the button style of B##,x,y,w,h,command......etc. But RR works with BMusic as a button. i think he only uses the first letter or until it matches a command and then ignores everything else up to the ,
I should really download the source to RR and just browse through it to see how Guino reads the skin files.
So its late, im tired, long day, good nite. Happy MP3ing. Oh yah today woot is selling the gyro multimedia mouse controller for 59.99. Too bad i just bought the gyro mouse without multimedia functionality

Okay so i tried to make the moving of things around easier and nicer. Instead of left click to move things i was going to use right click. That way you could select things without accidentally moving them. On the version 0020 build i had it working but i somehow broke the resize with left click. So i need to go back and fix that. also undo redo is really bad. I may release build 0020 with undo redo not working all the way. I just need to make sure everything still works without crashing.. Anyways give me a week or so now that everything that was keeping me busy has kind of died down. And i will try to get build 0020 out.

Hi pRoFiT,
and happy new Year. Its good to see you back on the boards again. If you do get time to make any changes, can you see if you can provide support for the INC files ? It may be a lot of work, but this would help me tremendously, and others I am sure as well.
Anyways, whatever you get to release, will always be well received. I have been thinking about getting in to Linux myself. I have been looking at a Eurovox PVR which is based on Linux, and can unscramble the encrypted cable signals. Not sure how configurable they are though. Anyways welcome back mate.
cheers

Okay took me a couple seconds to find the latest rr and check the commands file. The INC should be easy in the first skin file. The actual file it links to may be strange. If you open a INC "myfile.skin" and it doesn't have imageas attached to it. Might be hard to layout items. I gues i should first find a file that is used this way to see what you would put in it......I guess none visual objects would be in this type of file? Otherwise you would have to somehow tell the skin editor what pictures is in the skin that this myfile.skin would be included in. If that makes sense? Shouldn't be to much work to implement.
Not sure how i want to do that. Maybe some help from you guys as to what goes into the "myfile.skin"
p.s. cable descrambler? Digital cable? As of now analog cable channels only have basic cable in my area. everything moved to digital. So now i have Coolsat 4000. Free To Air baby!

Okay, so i updated the main page in this thread with a new link. Plus the old 0.3.019 is still there in case.
Here is http://home.comcast.net/~cstrachn/RRSkinEditor020.rar version 0.3.020.
Some changes were made.
1. Fixed Object naming crash. Now b01 or BMusic or bafraid,x,y,w,h, etc works.
2. Removed drag from left click moved to right click. Still select with left click or right.
3. Added some buttons that lock objects in place. Default all objects get locked from being able to move with mouse. If you unlock object you can move it around resize etc.
4. Also added unlock all and lock all objects. I may add an option to Lock or dont lock objects on "open skin" in the settings screen. Incase someone doesn't like the auto lock.
5. Comments.....Well i tried to add them. There is the rare case where you have an object that doesn't meet the object list. and could cause problems. not sure what kind yet. Ive been working on it all night. So just add / in front of all comments and we should be fine. I know alot of people wanted this option.
6. Undo Redo only in Virtual Editor. when you leave VE all settings saved and undo redo starts over. You can always just not save the skin if you really mess up. And VE also has reopen from editor if undo redo doesn't work. It is still a little sketchy. but i thought i would release it this way for now.
7. Fixed Text boxes to resize with zoom feature. So text will grow or shrink while using zoom. I tested this out on zots. Let me know if you see problems on other skins.
Well i think i did something else cant remember right now. oh yah DISCARDABLE is spelt right now
AGAIN THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE, AND IS TO BE USED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT SOFTWARE CRASHES MAY HAPPEN. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES
I think i may need a Disclaimer soon Its real late good nite, enjoy, i will check back tomorow.
EDIT: 8. oh not sure if 019 had it but ive added IMG displaying and /INC,MYFILE although you will have to manually remove the on off images line from the skin file that you are planning on using. the myfile.skin

Many Many Thanks!
pRoFiT, Wow! It's REALLY good to see you back in the swing of things. Back when you really active on the board, I was pretty much still a lurker.
That has changed now, and I could not begin to imagine creating a skin the old fashioned way in notepad! When you added the drag feature, you opened up a whole new world to many people (including me) that would not have even attempted to create skin before.
This community owes you a LOT of thanks for adding so many useful features to the editor!
Do you have a PayPal link somewhere?

Thanks! Never thought about putting up a paypal account. Never thought I would get paid to do this stuff! I think I would feel guilty and force myself to work on it all the time. As it is, I feel bad for taking so long to add what ive added.
But yah I do need to be more active on this forum. Been kind of busy. I used to post at least once a day.....anyhow. its good to be back. ill see everyone around the forums

Love alot of the new features. Undo is a definite must. Ability to undo in standard editor would be nice.
My only issue now is the list now shows alot of commented stuff.
IE
/, L, x, y, w, h, color R;RGB, G, B, font size;FONT, font name, Code;LABELCODES, Tooltip;LABELALIGNMENT
If you click them they highlight a random object in the right pane. double click it and it either crashes, or pops up a object modify dialog box which just contains the same thing "/, L, x, y, w, h, color R;RGB, G, B, font size;FONT, font name, Code;LABELCODES, Tooltip;LABELALIGNMENT"
Kindof annoying
Love the ability to name items properly now. Road Runner doesnt have problems reading buttons named BVolumePlayer?

The highlight im working on. Alot of people wanted the comments added. This way if you have a skin heavily commented the editor will keep them. Before any comments would be erased by the editor then a generic comment would be added before every type of object when saving.
I guess i never got a crash while testing. In VB it runs everytime and opens. when i try the compiled exe it locks every time. Looks like you have to open another object first. then you can open and edit comments. I will work on that.
So does that mean you dont like the comments showing up. You could always select them and click on delete

The crashing is random. On top of that the editor wouldnt work untill i copied all needed ocx files to the same directory. doesnt matter that previous versions worked or that vbrun was already installed. Installed vbrun again and still same issues untill i copied those files. Maybe the're causing my issues. I dont know. But Ive come across another
I cant copy/cut/paste. It worked for a short period. but only if i went to the Edit menu, selected cut/copy, then went to whatever i wanted and did the reverse. As of now cut/copy/paste doesnt work at all, ive reopened it, i've rebooted. it simply refuses to work in editor. I can cut/copy/paste in other text based programs. but the editor refuses to cooperate.
The whole autolock thing got on my nerves quick, i change windows, grab some code or test something, come back and cant click on anything. Simply dont like those features. I see the need and will actually use lock. But like a 3D Editor i would prefer the ability to choose what I want to lock and not have the program take the initial step in that.
As is the right-click to move an item, I live in a left click movement type of world :P, Better to leave this as an option for users, if possible. If not i'll probably install VS Studio and change it myself just for me
On the comments showing up. Since comments are more for the gritty code portion of it I see no real reason to clutter up the selection pane with them. I dunno maybe people like it. I like and use comments but only when im in the editor. I dont really want the (/, L, x, y, w, h,) To go away because I actually reference it when writing a skin but it just clutters my view when in the gui editor.
A feature I and im sure others would love to see is a change to the Screens Drop down list. Instead of One giant menu that scrolls it would be better if it was multiple Menu's Side by Side, both open at once, Like the windows start button. That way you wont have to spend forever and a day trying to get to a skin on the bottom. I spent alot of time just scrolling up and down to get to different skins. Another Option is to take the Windows Vista Start Button Approach.
Lastly the program seems to love to remove trailing line breaks in the skin, I hate this as I do most of my work in the editor and every time i go to the gui and back everything gets piled on top of each other making it difficult to read. Again maybe its just me being picky. Maybe roadrunner requires this. I don't know. I just know its easier on the eyes when all the buttons are seperate from all the Labels and so on.
In any case keep up the good work. Go ahead and add a paypal button to the help section of the editor

Okay here is some fixes to the comments area.
http://home.comcast.net/~cstrachn/RRSkinEditor021.rar
I'm going to leave 0.3.019 up for awhile since its more stable. But im sure once you get the new version you will like it better anyways. Plus i figured out why the exe code was doing different things then what i get in the programming environment. Like hanging up and crashing.
So from .020 to .021 i fixed comments highlighting objects. I think i fixed the hang or crash. and the bug where objects next to comments didn't come out all yellow when selected
