j187, i think the road runner preview would be best? i mean doing a simple font preview on the fly is rockin' also, but if you could preview the exact result within roadrunner but from or within profit's rrskineditor, that would be the raddest.

Yah, im not sure how hard it would be to implement a preview. I considered grabbing the source from RR and forceing it into the SkinEditor app. I'm sure it would be a system hog and slow down evrything. But i might be able to rip apart the code and have a non functioning preview. Like button navigation and text would show up but you wouldn't get audio or video to play. Maybe that would be pointless.
Depending on RR i may be able to have it embed into the skineditor and link to the current skin folder. I will need guinos help. I need RR to have command line arguments where I can execute RR %skinpath% or something to that effect.
Guino would that be possible?
Okay i should have more programming time this weekend. I'm still banging my head around a properties box that looks nice and works.

While we are spilling idea's, would an undo option be possible? Especially now that mouse moving is possible it could be usefull.

That way i can control the changes from the notpad into the skinner. It was also going to give me a place where i could track changes for an undo feature.
come one meelobee.....Now that there is a notepad built in i was going to figure out an undo next.
So yah after I figure out my properties box and how it needs to be displayed then I will jump on undo. Seems easy enough but it will take some time to get it just right. Probably kill myself during the process of getting it to work . I might even add a redo command.
I guess since no one has said yes or no on the way virtual text editor looks i will have to release it as part of the new RRskineditor. Maybe i will leave the old way up so people can download it still but have a seperate link to the new one. then slowly phase out the old link at a later time.
hehe, im still at work i got in late because i slept in. Working on RRSkinEditor late last night. I need to send the source here so i can work on it. or i could do my job anyways, thanks everyone for ideas, bugs and praise

Virtual editor is great!!! Auto highlight and auto update option are great too. If the whole preview thing is too hard to do, I wonder if everyone would settle for font preview - seems the most useful to me.

hum, i thought i replied with comments about the virtual editor, but i dont see the post now. anway, i like the way it works, and sees to work fine without issues. J187 said something about autohighlight option being great, im not sure if that was a request or if was something that is suppposed to be working. I dont see any highlights though.
As for the preview stuff and putting RR inside of skineditor. I think its a waste of time. I cant really justify the time/benifit of adding this feature. Plus the numerous bugs it could introduce. Plus what usefullness would it really give us for it to be inside the editor? You can just run RR like normal. Want to see your changes, save the skin and hit F5 in RR and it will reload the skin. Take all of what 3-4 seconds. I dont really see the time adding this feature will be worth it. A better font preview would be more usefull, but even if that wasnt changed its not a huge issue. I have RR running anyway, and one F5 will show me exactly what everything looks like.
If your creating or editing a skin and your not using the RELOADSKIN command in RR, just add
to KeyTBL.ini
also Profit, i think i figured out the crash problems i was having with S and Y lines.
I think the skineditor does not like it when there are numbers after the letter.
I changed S01 and Y01 to be just S and Y and the crashes stopped. All other objects are ok with numbers after them.

Unless you had RRSkineditor talk to RR via the SDK and send a RELOADSKIN command whenever a change is made, that way RR will reload the skin on the fly, just an idea.

now thats a good idea. And much easier to do. When you save the skin, have skineditor send the RELOADSKIN command! nice.

Smoke, it was my request earlier to autohighlight and profit met that request very shortly after, go back to post 45 and download the new link he put there, that version autohighlights the text in the virtual as soon as you switch from skineditor when you have an object selected in skineditior.
As far as what you said about the full preview being a bit much, I agree very much with you, I felt that way from the start, I didn't want to dismiss anyone elses ideas so I kinda tip-toed around it, but I've always thought the only really usefull preview feature would be a font size and color. I sometimes edit font size and color in my car on skineditor where I don't have F5. Also, its just much nicer to see the font right away.

Profit:
Just add the modSDK.bas and modcom.bas to RRskineditor then add the commands below in the relevant places in the main form:
Code:
Option Explicit
Private Sub save_Click()
'save code
'Send the reloadskin command on saving
COMSend "RoadRunner", "RELOADSKIN"
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Load()
'Prepare to receive messages
COMHook Me.hwnd
End Sub
Private Sub Form_QueryUnload(Cancel As Integer, UnloadMode As Integer)
'Unhook message API
COMUnhook Me.hwnd
End Sub

One more thing thing that I have noticed is that it will not save the /DISCARDABLE line in the virt notepad...
Other than that i have been using this new version heavly, and all I have to say is, WOW,WOW..talk about streamlinning the whole process...
Thanks very much for adding all these recent features....

Today I cranked out a bunch more files of my skin. After extensive use I find that I am using the virtual quite a bit. I am also not using the auto update, because I have accidentally made changes that I wished to discard and I actually like having to save manually before returning to skineditor.
