The main thing that would set this skin apart from all the others is that I've removed all the clutter of seldom-used features and used all the extra space as kind of a viewing area.



I seriously simplified the menu screen to just Audio and GPS. The image in the middle of the screen is actually a flash movie that randomly loads one of 10 images that are placed in the skin folder when touched.



Here I've made smaller buttons so that nearly every song title fits in my car monitor (7")



Same idea as above.



The large viewing area makes it possible to see a larger area of the map. I currently have the GPS screen set up for MS S&T because it was cheap and has excellent map coverage in Canada. I could change this to work with more widely used software if I release the skin.

I would not be adding support for any other RR features.

PS. Actual image quality is much better than what I've posted above. I reduced the quality of those ones to make them tiny files.

Yup, I like it. Its usable, unlike many IMO, that look fantastic, but are really very difficult to operate in a car.

Any chance of changing the word "Load" in the music player skin to "Albums" ? Then you just have the "Load" button in the browser skin.

A nice Mapmonkey screen would be good too. One that isn't so cluttered that it feels like you are viewing through a letterbox! 8-)

Buttons should be on the left side for all lilliput user. The problem is that the right area of the touchscreen of some lilliputs becomes blind after a while so you can't really reach buttons there

Good idea. I thought it was a little funny having two load buttons that did different things but couldn't think of anything to change it to...


I guess that sucks for them LOL. I really think the buttons should be on the right side because allows the user to see the screen while their hand is there. I also find it easier because I can rest my hand to the right of the screen so I steady my hand while pressing buttons on a rough road.

Also for us RHS drivers. I like the buttons on the right, where they are.

I gather the menu will be basic also? Just plain buttons in the middle?

How much of this skin have you done so far?

The above screen with the flash movie in the middle IS the menu screen. It scrools through 10 images that you put in the folder so the look can easily be customized to suit personal taste.

I've been trying to make it so the number of images it runs through is taken from a text file, but no luck so far. This means that if you have less than 10 files it will occasionally draw a blank screen, and if you have more than 10 it won't show them all. Hopefully I can figure this out before my Flash editor program trial runs out...


Getting close to finished everything. I've got all the main screens working fine (menu, audio, GPS, APP, OSK) but still need to do a mixer screen, a skin selection screen and a shutdown screen. I will also have to do some changes to the GPS skin so it's in more of a universal format (not too sure about this one, will probably just copy what I see in another skin).

OK, what about video in the menu? Not to throw a spanner in the works at this stage, but what if instead of video and audio you change the button to media that opens a screen that looks the same but now has volume up the top (as normal etc) but in place of audio GPS and Apps it reads Audio, video and DVD??

Just a thought.

I like the idea of scrolling pictures btw, something different.
