Acura ITX skin (a work in progress)

I'm replacing the original post and posting all the screens I have so far (haven't had much time to work on this lately, with other commitments, and using my spare time to run the wires in my car and finish the fabrication of my dashboard parts). Anyway, I've been putting some more time into this over the last day or two, and here are the screens I have so far:

The splash/loading screen:

The main screen, showing currently playing music, gps heading, # of satellites locked, altitude, time and date, etc... The lozenge buttons at the top represent (from left to right) Music Player, Music Browser, GPS, External Applications:

The same main screen with optional visualization running:

The main screen after hitting either LEFT or RIGHT arrow buttons in the top menu... The lozenge buttons at the top represent (from left to right) Movies, Phone Control, Games, OBD Diagnostics:

The Audio Player screen:

The Audio Browser screen. Clicking the "System List" or "Playlist" text switches the navigation cross to control that particular list. The alphabet across the top is a quicksearch to jump through the list:

Clicking the GPS lozenge in the main screen brings up this menu:

The Equalizer. Speaks for itself:

The OSK, which is accessed from any screen by clicking the 'ITX' text in the banner at the top of the screen:

S&T '06 integrated into the skin. The buttons in the submenu control such functions as the Guidance Pane, POI, Route Planner, Re-Routing, map zoom in and out, cycling through 4 different text sizes by repeated presses of the 'TEXT SIZE" button, cycling through the different map views (Road, Terrain, Political, Night) by repeated presses of the "MAP STYLE" button, etc.

Notice the S&T map has no borders on the left and right sides, but instead extends right to the edge of the skin/screen.

Clicking the "FUNCTIONS" button in the previous screen overlays the following menu, which gives access to starting the tracking function, arranging and centering the map, rotating the map in the direction you're heading, and creating the GPS trail. Clicking the "FUNCTIONS" button again closes the GPS FUNCTIONS menu and restores the menu in the previous screen:

With not a lot of space in a 7" screen, I still wanted to be able to have access to artist/title info, since with several thousand tracks on my car system, I won't always know what I'm listening to. Clicking the "MUSIC" button brings this popup menu, which gives access to basic functions like play/pause, stop, FF, RW, artist, track title, elapsed time, total time, etc. Clicking the "MUSIC" button again closes the music popup menu:

Clicking the ACURA text in the banner in any screen brings up what I call the "Blind Man's Screen" (aka Boss Key, Kill Switch, etc). When driving in areas where law enforcement doesn't take kindly to video screens on the dashboard, and law enforcement happens to pull out right behind you, hitting the ACURA text will bring up this screen, which attempts to be as dark as possible while maintaining a certain sense of humor Clicking anywhere on that screen will restore whatever screen was being displayed prior to entering it:

The EXIT MENU screen. The options are (or should be) pretty self-explanatory:

To-DO List (not in any particular order, and will be updated as I remember things, and as I begin work on them):

- iguidance screens
- games menu and games screen
- applications menu and screens
- not sure if I'm going to bother with the phoco screen since I personally won't be using it
- OBD screens, though I haven't even started playing with OBD yet so I don't know how that will go
- continue working on OSK because it's flaky. Might opt to go with uboard since it works pretty well
- rebuild entire skin, once complete, in green for night-time driving

very cool, i like the top and bottom, not so crazy about the middle. Night ver is better (i would make the bkground even darker). I like the effect on the circle buttons, just dont like that they are circles. Overall though, very nice!

Yeah, the daytime is definitely too bright/busy, for the main screen at least. The sub-screens are arranged in a slightly different way. I've posted caps of the ones I've completed so far...

However, what would you recommend for the main screen buttons, rather than circles? Perhaps rectangles with slightly rounded corners and the same glassy effect?

Here are some subpages:

(Edited. Replaced ball-type sliders with customized horizontal slider bars)

yeah, those new screens are hot! something about the balls on the eq sliders bothers me, not sure what it is though. Wouldnt change anything on the sub screens. nice job.

For the main screen, i would make them rectangles with rounded corners lilke you said. Or, make them just like the buttons on the bottom, make a new row on the top. Prob the best option so they dont clash with the buttons on the bottom, for consistancy.

nice job.

Yeah, I took the ball-sliders from another skin while I was putting the rest of the screen together, just to have a reference point while I got everything aligned. I'm going to sleep on the design for the sliders and see what I can come up with in the next day or two.

[EDIT: I've replaced the first-version image with the new image, showing the new slider-handles in place]

Very nice job. I really like how the shades blend together. I agree with liquid_smoke that the circular buttons kinda look out of place. Semi-transparent rectangular buttons so that you can still see the car underneath would look good, IMO.

Nice looking. A couple screens appear to be derived from tja's Aero skin right?

wow, I really like this, keep working on it.

Will u be making different color verision when completed? I don't know if it possible but it would be cool to have one done in red shades, to match my interior.

Here's a first-draft of the main screen with rounded rectangular buttons... I'm not sure if it's better this way or not...

And here's a first-run on the OSK. I haven't added all the keys yet because I'm not sure I like the font, but it gives an overall idea of the appearance.

Looks good but the font hurts my eyes a bit. I like this better.

The font on which screen specifically? Remember that these are 600px reduced from the full 800, so there's a bit of blurring in the reduction...
